Time and a half on Sundays?

    I was looking through my part time contract and it doesn't mention anything about extra pay on a Sunday even though some people in my office are convinced they're getting time and a half for it and also that there's some legal requirement.

    I'm just looking for some advice...

    Sunday is a double time day. Time and a half is paid on a weekday after regular hours have been exceeded(over 40hrs) and for the 1st 4hrs on Saturday anything after tht should be double time.

    Are you part time or full time?
    Im only part time but I've never had anything but normal pay Monday-Saturday and only in the last few months have we started getting time and a third for sundays.

    From the Citizens Information site....

    If you do Sunday work your entitlement to extra pay may be agreed between you and your employer. Under the Organisation of Working Time Act, if there is no agreement about your pay, your employer must give you one or more of the following for Sunday working:

    A reasonable allowance
    A reasonable pay increase
    Reasonable paid time off work

    What is reasonable depends on all the circumstances. It is a matter for negotiation between you and your employer and, where applicable, your trade union.

    I'm part-time and I receive approximately €10k a year for 20 hours a week. I've left two messages on the voice mail of the chair person and manager of my trade union branch.

    Before you go nuts with your trade union, be sure that your contract didn't state that you were on a salary, or that your Sunday pay was to offset a certain number of hours you're supposed to work (i.e. you're on a 24 hour basis, but Sunday allows you 4 hours off with the same pay, or something like that).

    Your employer is obliged to pay you DOUBLE pay on a sunday, whether you are part time or full time. This is fact. Contact NERA, the National Employment Rights Bureau. Here is their website:
