i registered with howdidido a couple of months ago - its a good site that is linked to your club's competition computer - so you get your score card, where you came in the competion some other stats on it, plus a database of all your scores. anyone here a member and what do you think?

Yeah I use it. The subscription is something like 15 quid for the year.

I find the text feature very useful. The minute the competition computer is closed and totted up by your club official you get a text with the top three scores and scorers and where you finished as well as the CSS. It also texts you your new exact h'cap after every qualifying round.

Online, you can look up any competition in any club that's on Howdidido (which is alot) and view the full list of players, their scores and their adjusted h'caps after the comp. It also shows who didn't return their card.

You can view your own score card from any of your past competitions.

You can view the h'cap list from any club on Howdidido which can be handy if you're booking a slot with players you don't know and would prefer avoid a guy off 2 or off 28.

The stats are ok, I do my own on excel which is handier. What you can do is compare yourself to other class one players in terms of pars, bogeys birdies etc.

Pretty much no one actually "embelishes" their rounds, ie: goes through the scorecard after a round detailing each shot as "mid iron from fairway to green" etc. It's way to painstaking for me.

All in all I find it good.

I signed up to it for a year, but didn't renew. Found alot of the stats to be a waste. It's far easier just to keep a tally in a notebook or excel document i think. I'm still signed up to it so can use it to check results etc and have all the benefits of a paid up member other than the embellishment part.

I agree with Shriek, the email/text alerts are brilliant. Love sitting on a sunday night looking through all the results from my own clubs and those of mates to see how everyone got on.

Yeah meant to say, it' very possible that many of the benefits I listed are available on the free version.

For competitive golfers, it really does give you more bang for your buck when it comes to the 7-10 euro you hand over each week for a competition fee. Or the 20 or 30 quid in an open. I find it encouraging when you have a medicore day and shoot 32 points to look and see that youve actually come in the top 10 of 100 players.

It's amazing how GolfNet never has the results up as quickly, nor does it provide nearly as much info.

I find it brilliant very quick with reults and course analaysis great the way you can get the handicap from any player at any club ( have done some celebrity spotting myself) there is nearly too much information it's is actually possible to find the name of posters on here( not that you'd want to) based on the success they say they had

I'd imagine there are more than a few readers and posters on this board who do that... :)

One thing worth noting is that the howdidido website is only as good as the guy in your club is at updating it! When you think you have a good score and you're waiting through the week for it to be updated, then it shows up on Thursday and you were beating by a point or something.

Also, I hate when i've played an open somewhere and then you never get to see the proper results because the club either isn't on it or doesn't bother putting it up.

i have to say i think its really good, even though i never paid for the "premium" version!

Before that i looked into downloading some kind of stats tracking package but never managed to get it together. Usually story overwhelmed with choice - hard to pick a good one from the dross - and then they have to work on a mac - at least with howdidido you get some idea of the overall trend of play on certain holes etc.

Yes even in the morning time when it's usually alright, it's now very slow.

My club dosen't use it but I wish that they did. As Sheet says, it'd be nice to see exactly how your score compares to the whole field instead of just the top 3 or whatever. Whats the story with getting a club to start using it? As in, does the club pay much for using it and must the scores be entered by the club to both Golfnet and Howdididido? Might be worth suggesting it to the Club?

Such a frustrating website and often so slow.

+1 the performance today was a nightmare. However, it is a very good service and provides great information and statistics.

I am however waiting for the day when they start to try and charge me for the service.

It's depends on their handicapping software, for example club 2000 which is popular plugs into the site [for free]. If they've something else then they'd probably have to pay a fee if they can at all.

How would one go about getting yer club signed up to this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 659 ✭✭✭Nemesis

You could find your club on Masterscoreboard.co.uk too.
I think its linked to handicapmaster software some clubs use.

You could if you club was in Kenya or England, under the listings for clubs starting with the letter "K", there is only 1 club from Ireland listed and 4 from Kenya, I mean wtf?.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 290 ✭✭carnsoreboxer

Hmm - played Muthaiga GC Kenya in Nov!

Just thought I'd throw that in!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 659 ✭✭✭Nemesis

Typical that my club Woodenbridge is the only one on it

Only 1 club from Ireland Daithi?.

    seen 5 listed under 'B'.

Portmarnock and Ballybunnion use it too.

Probably 50-100 Irish courses on it.

Yeah, without fail, every Monday it's verging on unusable. I presume this is down to it being peak time among people back in work after the weekend checking results. It eventually loads, but yeah, it's incredibly crap on Mondays.

The http://beta.how-did-i-do.co.uk version is better alright but still slow because the site has to deal with all the comps being uploaded and the hamsters get very busy after the weekend I imagine...
See my barton partner from last year had a 68 gross (-3) for a nett 61 in our medal yesterday... 1 bogey, 4 birdies. Cut from 7 to 5.0
Studying for the LC so can't use him in Junior cup :(

I see the Howdidido site is down again. Lets hope 'essential maintenance' means they are finally sorting the bloody thing out.

I'm surprised more clubs don't go with http://www.masterscoreboard.co.uk as it works far better.
