Foundation Brush - how do you use it?

One of my friends was horrified that I always use my fingers or a sponge to apply foundation, and gave me a foundation brush. She told me that it would use less product and would make the coverage more even, but after my first few attempts to use the brush it seems that either she's wrong or I'm not using it right. I've a feeling I'm just not using it right, because it's not going on evenly at all and I just end up correcting it with a sponge or with my fingers. Are you only supposed to use a brush for certain types of foundation? Does anyone have any tips on how to use the brush?
(Note that I do not wear foundation every day, just when I go out in the evening)

Foundation brushes are best used with a liquid foundation, very hard to use with a compact type foundation. Use it the same as a sponge, put a small bit of foundation on your forehead, nose, cheeks and chin and always brush downwards. If you find it easier to use a sponge stick with the sponge, sometimes if your not used to a brush it can be hard to get your foundation to blend in.

I've been using one for years. I use a liquid foundation and put a small amount on my hand. Then I put a tiny bit onto the brush by dipping it in and cover somewhere like my chin. Then repeat until everywhere is done. You really have to work it all in. I use a powder afterwards to set it.

It sounds like could be putting too much onto the brush at one time if you are getting streaks. Trust me, once you master it you'll much prefer it. Practice some time you're not going out just to get it right, so you don't get stressed if it doesn't work out first time.

This is pretty much what I do and always get even coverage. If I'm in a big rush I just use my hands though :pac:

i just started to use a brush, i used to just use my hands. The coverage is much more even with the brush but if ur used to using a sponge, stick with it!

Fishie!! I'm shocked! And you an Avon laydee?? Tut tut!!!:D:D:D

I'm joking! Best used with liquid foundation. Put some liquid on your hand -where everyone tests lipstick on their hand! - and dip in the brush. Work from the T zone out.

i switched to a brush from a sponge thanks to suggestions on boards..thanks laydees!! was dubious at first but now i wouldn't go back :)

I put a bit on my hand and work it in bit by bit, find i have to work it well around my nose in case i miss a it but think it blends in pretty well around the jawline area
