If you remain very still and be very quiet, you can just about make out the sound of champagne glasses clinking in O'Leary's penthouse.

I doubt Ryanair really cared that much about BA's Gatwick - Dublin route to be honest. Gatwick isn't a big Ryanair hub, and their Dublin - Gatwick route is a nice, reasonably busy legacy for them with BA's presence neither harmed nor benefited over the years.

Aer Lingus, however, will probably be happy. They're increasing flights on the route as a result of this and getting BA's passengers through a codeshare agreement.

in all the years I've flown Dublin-London I didn't realise BA even had a Dub to Gatwick route

I doubt it, at the end of the day it's one less airline competing with them on that route and it means they can go head to head with Aer Finglas...we all know that's no contest.

I can't see Ryanair benefitting either. This is an expensive way to fly London - Dublin so i guess most passengers would be business passengers or those who have through tickets. Aer Lingus should pick up most of these.

I think BA still fly from London City though, I wonder if they have plans to pull that as well.

They only started that route at the start of summer, so hopefully they'll stick it out. Though last time my flight was mysteriously cancelled and I was given an Air France flight instead. Hope that wasn't a sign of things to come.

Why do you say that Fratton Fred? Connection-wise? It's actually my preferred way. I think Ryanair flyers tend to automatically think Stansted for London but Gatwick is always included in their €1/€5/€10 offers too and even when paying full taxes and charges there's only a couple of pounds in the difference. In terms of Aer Lingus, the taxes and charges are considerably less than Heathrow meaning it's often the cheaper option too.

most of the cheapest flights i've gotten over the last 6 months with ryanair to london have been on the dublin-gatwick route. dearest i've paid is €20 for a flight and most have been on weekends. gatwick is as easy as any of the london airports for access into the city and is cheaper by train (southern/first capital connect) than the stansted express which is one of the biggest rip-offs ever!!

I meant with BA. I have done the Dublin Gatwick route several times and yes, it is cheap. I can't stand Gatwick though so I try and avoid it personally.

Gatwick is very easy to get to though, which helps keep the cost down.

Gatwick is my preferred choice of London airports, it's just easy.

Give me Heathrow anyday, it always seems to take forever to get through security at Gatwick.

Thinking about it though, I flew back from gatwick with Ryanair on the way back from the Dominican republic. I chose Ryanair because they were about €70 cheaper than BA.

The trouble is, we had so much luggage, I ended up paying €100 in excess baggae charges:(

Most definitely the other way around, Heathrow is probably my most hated airport when it comes to security/general rudeness of staff, etc it's an absolute nightmare whereas Gatwick for the most part isn't as bad.

Not long unless they lower their prices, booked two tickets for January and it was €40 cheaper with CityJet.

You can pick up some bargains on the DUB-LCY route at the weekends, but during the week, the prices are way too high.
