Laptop TV Tuner - MPEG4

    Hi all,

    As many of you, I have a TV Tuner in my laptop and was able to watch Digital free to air tv in Ireland, until they started using MPEG4. Since then, I can hear the sound allright, but no image.

    I have investigated the issue and learnt about the MPEG4 decoding. However, I still don't know if:

    1. A MPEG4 decoder (i.e. Core AVC) plus a player like DBViewer should suffice;

    2. or I won't be able to resolve this on the software side and need a new tv tuner.

    Thanks in advance,
    Gustavo

    Download the Cyberlink PowerDVD trial. You get a top quality codec for nothing.

    You should with DVBViewer. I can at least, although recording is not something I am interestied in.

    powerDVD 8 keep sf**king up my vista laptop. It worked fine (i could watch TV) . When I did a reboot, vista reversed the install (moved to previous install-point). This happened twice!
    I'll have to try a different codec.

    Can we have a sticky: "CODECs that work with mpeg-4 trial?"

    I use CoreAVC codec and DVBViewer. Very happy after all the hassle I went through trying to get this to work.

    Yeah, going to try CoreAVC next, I think. I tried to get the eval version, but e-mail with key never sent.

    Does you PVR functions (pause live tv, record, epg) work?

    Can anyone recommend a TV Tuner card? I already have DVB Viewer to view UK FTA channels so it would be handy if I cauld view Irish ones too.

    Yes, they do. I tried them once last week but I don't really use them. However, they are in the DVBViewer, not in CoreAVC as this is the codec.

    Here you can find alternative download locations to test your CoreAVC.
