A woman knocked on my friend's mother's door today. Said she was a neighbour. His mother let her into the hall even though she had never seen her before. Woman said she was from poland and her husband had drove off with her baby's food in the car. Managed to get 40 euro from her for food and nappies.
We went out looking for the woman in all the nearby estates but she was nowhere to be seen. Cant believe someone would take advantage of a person's genorosity like that.

I couldnt believe she fell for it because she wouldnt come across as someone easily tricked. She said she never buys or gives out money at the door even to charities but it was just the way she talked her into it.
You know the way housing estates are now. Noone knows anyone. Woman said she lived in house other side of the green.

    Karma, and yadda yadda.

I don't know how people could take advantage of a nice person like that and live with that sort of conscience.

You try becoming George bush. Heck, he took advantage of peoples generosity (well, taxes), and used it to KILL people.

    And make 9/11

Thats the thing. She isnt stupid. Its just that the b***h that done it was so convincing.
By the way i have nothing against polish people. Any i have met up until now have been very friendly. Maybe she wasnt even polish.
Anyway just meant this as a warning to everyone.

I dont know if anybody ever reads neighbours.ie but earlier this year on the Tyrrelstown forum of it there was a few warnings put up about a woman who was knocking around the doors looking for money for nappies and food as her husband was at work and she had no money.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,546 ✭✭✭Enii

A woman knocked on my door about a year ago with a very convincing story. Said she lived around the corner and that her husband had gone to work and left her with no money and she needed to buy milk for the baby.

Plays on the conscience of those she calls to. Was very hard to say No.

Felt a bit better when I checked it out on Snopes and saw that it is a common scam that has been played out for years - more commonly at petrol pumps in the states.

So the 'warning' is 'Don't let strangers into your house and give money, they may not be genuine'. Got it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 178 ✭✭sprinklesspanky

When strangers ask me for money I say no and offer to buy them something to eat and offer advice. If some one says "I need money for a bus ticket" I say "okay, I'll go buy you one, where you off to?" The scammers will walk off.

Many people are genuinely in need of help and I expect there will be more people as the economy gets worse. Undoubtedly there are dishonorable people out there who'd scam you if they had the chance but that doesn't mean you shouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt.

Also, I wouldn't classify someone who is altruistic as a "sucker" or "stupid", maybe just naive and good hearted.

€40 ? That's enough for seven Happy Meals. It wasn't this woman at the door by any chance?

OP, I feel you pain. It was only earlier this week a trio of nubile and attractive women called to my door and feed me some yearn that they were
Polish penis inspectors sent over to Ireland as part of their work experience from university. No sooner had I whipped out my todger was it made apparent that they were nothing but fraudsters looking for to get their hands on some
Irish man meat. The cheek of these immigrant charlatans.

Let this be a warning to all.
