It seems all my appliances are starting to go.. My fridge now doesn't seem to be cooling, I've it turned to 3.5 (only 1-4) and the Ice box seems to be melting. Its a +8 year old intergrated Fridge with ice box. Does it sound like the death knell for it, should I bother even getting an engineer out to look at it?

Possibly a dead thermostat. They're not that difficult to replace yourself if you're a bit handy. I did one on our freezer recently .. got the thermostat off eBay. There seems to be only a limited number of unique models of thermostats in existence, and very few manufacturers, so it's pretty easy to find one. My freezer was getting on for 25 years old (!), and the thermostat was still in production, so an 8 year old fridge freezer shouldn't be any problem.
