Hi,just wondering if anybody has any experience of Office 1 Ireland as franchise?
Or has anybody any advice re stationery/office supplies market?
Thoughts on the location of such a business would be appreciated ie high street and looking for high footfall and catering for the home office and small business office versus non high street location eg industrial park and going after the bigger offices, delivering by van etc running accounts operation.;)

I am a franchisee, but office stationery sector would be something I would stay well clear of....Highly competitive, retail rates, low margin, resource heavy (design/phone/proofs) and surely high capital entry (machinery). Up against established players with an on tap customer base, such as Snap Printing and Prontoprint .....no thanks.

I never heard of Office1 Ireland.....which (for me as a franchisee) would ring alarm bells....It should be one of the major benefits of a franchise you are paying for.

Ring the other franchisees, meet them for a pint/coffee and get a feel for their experience of the franchise.

a lot of the office 1 franchises are the old compustore shops around the country

culchie, you are confusing printing and the stationery that office 1 type people offer, they do refill pads, paper etc. the margins can be quite good depending on location. your main competition would be viking, office depot, corporate express and local stationers

As a disclaimer i worked in the office stationery market for years and have heard of office 1 before, indeed the owner of the master franchise in ireland is currently on one of the AIB radio ads.

op feel free to pm me if you wish

Pay your local guy a little bit more and you will get far better service.

Forget franchise and go it alone. The key is to set up accounts and get goods terms and conditions. I went down this route a year ago. While I still work I do this as a sideline all going well. If you franchise your already going to be in debt before you've even started.

OP, as far as I know, Office 1 have an outlet on the Ballymount Road beside the Maxol station, I know the girl who runs it, she is very helpful and would go out of her way to give you advice and assistance...
