Just wondering if anyone has any good tips on how to clean make-up brushed, should you use soap or shampoo or neither? I've only started using brushes properly and would like to keep them in good nick if possible.

    Thanks

You should use an actual makeup brush cleaner. MAC sell a good one.
However if your brushes are made of real hair (expensive ones often are), you can use a little bit of shampoo - and also conditioner, if you find your brushes moult!

A make up artist told me to use some of the facial cleanser that you use to wash your face. Its really gentle (otherwise you wouldn't be using it!) and works well on your brushes.

I use baby shampoo. It's cheap and really gentle.

I would recommend a make up brush cleaner like the Mac one for everyday use, then shampoo for a more periodic deep-clean. Especially if you use a foundation brush as they can get very dirty.

I worked in the Body Shop before and we recommended that people use a Tea Tree cleanser to clean brushes. The thing you need to worry about with brushes is the spread of bacteria, so a mild antiseptic like Tea Tree works a treat. Special make-up brush cleaners are usually a con, unless they're anti-bacterial too.
