Exactly, it's all just childish nonsense and an excuse for idiots to dress as provocatively as possible.

Any holiday is commercialised [the ones that Kids that holidays from anyway]... this, Easter, Xmas, etc.

So.. yeah, it's obviously a time for making money that primarily focuses on parents and their kids.

Would you be at risk of an egging if when the trick or treaters arrived at the door you perfromed a trick, that pulling off your thumb one, then closed the door?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 397 ✭✭galwayguy22

The last time I cared about Halloween was when I was about 6.

What the **** is with grown people dressing up in costumes? Let it go you sad ****ers, your childhood is LONG gone.

Pretending to pull your thumb off would probably get you a banger through the letterbox. Although saying that, pretending to pull your dick off would probably keep everyone away from your door.

nope not at all , its an Irish holiday thats been internationalised, so we are just spreading the madness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,790 ✭✭✭cornbb

Tis nice for the kids, but its used by scumbags as an excuse to behave like shítheads and by adults to dress up in "sexy" costumes that they think will help them get laid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,606 ✭✭✭Jumpy

Just dress as Gary Glitter for the trick or treaters.

Parents wont bring the kids to your door next year guaranteed

God you sound really bitter! It's only a bit of fun, lighten up.

No it originates from the pagan festival of Samhain.

    and the problem is....?

Also underage drinking and setting fire to things. I vote to let it stay, if only for the young folk.

This is what a single-digit sexual conquest record does to you. Loosen up.

I was going to say yes, but I've just found out my mum has made rice crispy buns for all the tricker treaters. Those bastards won't lay a finger on them.

I love halloween, the one night of the year when no one gives a **** what you dress like. Always an amazing buzz in town :D

God i hate Halloween. What a waste of a night. What is it supposed to celebrate?
At least Christmas celebrates the birth of Santa:pac:

Just another day taken advantage of by those seeking to make more money from those that sometimes don't have it in their pockets to give.

    Its a capitalists wet dream!

In it's current Americanised happy holiday form? Pure bullsh*t. Most people don't have a clue what the holiday/festival is even supposed to celebrate...it's all just pumpkins and fake blood.
Have fond memories of the thing when I was a kid and I'd hope that kids nowadays take away similar fond memories...as for grown people dressing up? Sad bastards IMO, but they'd say the same about me.
BTW WTF is up with people doing fancy dress that has NOTHING to do with haloween? I can half understand people getting into vampire costumes or something, but nurses? Nuns? Batman etc? Jesus wept.

Now I'm off to throw rocks at passing cars...

Your all the sad bastards, "we're old now, we can't dress up", its a bit of fun, dress up have a laugh, its always good banter if your out and about for the night.

Jeez, most people have a bit of fun with it, it helps to break the Autumn a bit.

Yes, of course there are some saddos who take it too far and use it as an excuse to get pished / cause trouble.

So the solution is abolish it?

Fair enough, then on the same grounds you had better abolish the following as well:

    - St. Patrick's Day

    - Christmas

    - High-profile soccer matches.

    - Actually, almost all high-profile sports events / concerts / festivals.

    - Weekends in general, come to think of it!

Someone give Volvoboy a shout there, he can teach us all to knit!!

Days off or late starts as well. If I have the next day off or I'm not in until 12 I'm more inclined to go boozing that night.

I was in this place on Liffey Street eating Pizza and minding my own business when these two skangers come into the place with 4 kids in tow. They're all dressed up and they come up to me and say "trick or treat money in the bank!" and hold out this little plastic pumpkin to put money into. For **** sake, just let me eat my pizza!!!! I thought Halloween was just getting sweets, now the little ****ers want my money? This is taking the piss. And I bet their skanger mothers take all the money at the end of the night too. Poor bastards.

Oh look another Ah thread saying how much they hate something .What a suprise.

Just a bit of variety to life, you don't have to take part and you can laugh at people who do dress up because it is fun .

    I love halloween.

My mother bought 4 bags of chocolate for the trick or treaters and so far we have given out a grand total of zero.

Normally I'd be happy to have a bit extra chocolate, but she bought Lion bars ffs!

    We are so getting egged.

Oh yeah, I don't mind Halloween but I've to drive my sister somewhere later and am scared that I will be egged.
