    Hi all,

I need to get some help, emotionally. I have tried several things but I don't seem to get anywhere. Most therapists are 70 euros and up and even a gp visit is 55 euro. I can't even afford to go to my gp at this moment, which is all doing my head in.
    Where can I go?

Samaritans? Don't have to go into details, just tell they you're looking for an inexpenisve counsellor. Nothing to lose.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I'm nearly certain therapists do free or nearly free work too. Try contacting a therapist and explain your situation - they might be willing to help.

    According to http://www.irish-counselling.ie/aboutus.htm:

Counselling / Psychotherapy is provided free within the Health Boards but resources vary depending on where you live. Some voluntary organisations provide free counselling.

    Maybe give them a ring?

Would you maybe be entitled to a Medical Card or GP card?
Phone your local Mental Health Services - Psychiatry is free.
If it's really urgent, go to A&E and they should have a liason psychiatrist there.
OR phone your local psychology dept and see if they take self-referrals. (Also free)
Try the HSE website for addresses/phone numbers.

Contact ur local community welfare office to see if u'll b eligible for the med card or gp card. Explain ur situation, whatever that might be.
Samartians are great aswel, used to volunteer myself a few years ago, so i can guarentee you its 100% confidental & best of all, they NEVER ask questions. Its someone you can basically rant to & they'll listen. 9 times out of 10, people just need to get it out of ther system. when i say that im not trying to belittle ur issue or problem, but talking does help alot!!

Im sure there are free services through the HSE regardless of whether u have a med card or not. Try there website & if worst comes to worst go to your local a & e. You wont be made wait in the queue, so dont worry bout that. Usually seen within 20mins (from personal experience)

& please dont feel guilty for asking for help. Its absolutely the best thing you can do!

best of luck with it :)xxx

Your GP should be able to get you a concillor for free. you don't need a medical card.
    Ask him about it .

I was in same situation .

    Good luck :D

As above, get on to every authority you can! Ring around.

Also though if you are THAT broke then you should get a medical card, and your mental health is work a few quid to be fair.

Tackle it on all fronts, get more exercise, stop smoking (if you do) stop drinking, drugs, eat better, take up meditation.

    Good luck!

go to Recovery Group meetings. This is a proactive self help weekly therapy group. It only costs €3 a week and if you can't afford that you don't even have to pay it. It works by identifying symtons/feelings etc that bother you and modifying your thinking/behaviour to remedy, rather than a counceling type senarioa where you might spend more time talking about yourself and the past. Recovery is very 'future-orientated'. Its emphasis is that your come with some disturbing symptons/thoughts/feelings etc and you want them to get rid of them. It takes time+effort but its worth it. It will be the best money you ever spend. When I went to my first meeting 6 years ago, an elderly man put his hand on my shoulder on his way out and said 'You stick with this now. This actually works' He was right.

you could also try your local citizen information centre. They could put u in contact with an organisation in your area such as a family project. They all use counselling service an I know that some of the services are free or very cheap to those who need them.
