    Hi, im Christmas Shopping early.
Any recommendations for quality Cosmetic Sets to get the girlfriend?
She`s never had one before, she currently just uses a few bits and pieces, but she`s been hinting she`d like to get one.
I saw one advertised on the back of the Weekender magazine a few days ago, think it was €70 in Brown Thomas, and you got some kind of case with it too, ColourSomethingOrOther!!!
    Any ideas?
My budget would be about €75-€100 for this present.
Either one big set or a few smaller ones together.
    Iv no idea really myself.

Benefit do lovely sets of cosmetics for eyes, lips, concealers etc. You could pick up a few of them in your budget. Or you can swing by the MAC counter where they will make up palettes for you.

I think that you're thinking of the Colour Me Beautiful sets - I have no experience with those though.

Thanks for the recommendations so far. I`ll check them out.
I see another thread here about foundation, she doesn`t wear any herself, but she would do if a good set is bought for her i think.
Would it be a good idea to get a few of these sets then with eyes, lips and blushers etc, and then a good foundation set in addition too?
And should i be buying the foundation for her myself or would a voucher or IOU be better for that since its more personal to her skin colour?

    Oh, and good perfumes?
Anything special you ladies can recommend?

Foundation is too difficult to just guess. I'd get a voucher for that.

Perfume is very personal, again I'd stay away from buying one as something one girl might like, another might really dislike.

Does she not wear foundation because she hasn't gotten a nice one, or because she just doesn't? Some women just don't like to wear foundation.

Urban Decay have a brilliant eyeshadow set called 'Book of Shadows' out at the mo, 34 euro for 16 eyeshadows, two brushes and eyeshadow primer potion (makes the shadow last longer). Nice mix of colours. I second Benefit too, some nice sets out at the mo there.

Yeah, Mac wil make you up palettes, but only of eyeshadow. They also do palettes with lipstick or eyeshadow in them at Xmas with cool covers - this year is red snakeskin. Have a look here.

You can't really go wrong with a set from Brown Thomas, Benefit, Bobbi Brown, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent all do good sets for Christmas - all of these brands would be a good buy for any age - some others might be a bit old. If you're buying in Debenhams you can get most of these brands too (not Bobbi Brown or YSL I think), but watch out for the crappy sets that are aimed at teenagers or people who don't usually buy makeup! They're usually in the gift section and they aren't any of the brands I've mentioned above. I'm not being label snobby, but a lot of the other sets are fairly bad quality makeup.

if she wants to get into make up why not book a consultation at one of the counters either in Debenhams or BT depending which is closer to you. This way, they can choose the right foundation colurs, etc to suit and it wont be a total shock or waste if you bought something she didn't like.

Think most of the counters charge for the consultation but is redeemable against 2 purchases at that counter ... not too bad

Your best bet would too get a gift set!! As previously mentioned above, foundation & perfume is a no go area unless you know the particular scent of perfume or the shade of foundation she uses!!

You would be on thin ice if you got her something she didnt like nor would she use! So if I was you, I'd probably go for the bobbi brown or indeed benefit gift sets if she likes quirky details. It would be nice if you could get her one with both the products to use and also brushes too so she can get a flawless perfection!! :D:D

Something along the lines of this:-

Hopefully you get her the perfect gift, she's lucky too have someone like yourself making sure you get the right present!! :D

I like this idea. In Mac you can buy the makeover voucher in €25 denominations (I think?!), so buy four. She goes in gets a makeover and €100 worth of make up or tools that the artist has helped her choose and will be perfect for her.
