    Hi there,

I'd like to make a replica of my children's hands and/or feet - can anyone recommend what would be good to make a mould out of? I'm trying to create something like this (without spending the money).....

Presumably I just make the mould and then pour in plaster of paris - the question is how do I and what do I make the mould out of? Have been to the art and hobby shop and they couldn't help.....

    Thanks

The mould of the hand is made from Alginate it thickens from liquid to a rubber like substance.

There are kits available on ebay have a look

A cousin of mine makes moulds of children's feet and recreates them in silver - I'm sure she has stuff for making the mould (alginate sounds familiar, that must be it!) and would be able to tell you where to get it. I'll find out and report back!

i am based in sth dublin and have been working with alginate and plaster for the past year and have been thinking of supplying kits for diy and offering it as professional service , working on the business idea at the moment , and my own and my kids hands , the detail is amazing ,

i may develop a travelling business , bring the mould making to the home , more comfortable and easier if there is a few kids
for more info , lvngsclptr@gmail.com, and a blog in progress livingsculpture.wordpress.com
    best of luck
