Whats the standard word processor that comes on a mac. Im so tempted to buy a mac instead of windows. Cant take vista any more. I dont under stand why a company as rich as microsoft cant develop a os like OSX.

nyway seeing as this will be macbook primarily for college work i need to know if the word processor is easy to get used to? and if its any good compared to Word

Part of the reason that OSX works so well is that it is only designed to work with a small set of hardware. Apple focuses on making their OS work extremely well with a certain type of hardware, where windows is designed to work with many different types of hardware. As a result, there are limited choices when it comes to a buying hardware for a Mac, but they are able to make sure those choices work well.

In regards to a word processor, you have a lot of options. The three most popular are probably Apple Works, OpenOffice, and MS Word. You can check this site out to get some ideas, but they all have their nuances.

If you're sick of vista, I'd suggest having a look at linux too. Ubuntu would be my recommendation for someone starting out.

I use NeoOffice (openoffice) on my macbook. No difference between it and Ms Word for the normal day to day uses i.e college.

Even the standard one is totally fine as well, basically looks and functions like a stripped down word that has all the fundamentals of the above use. Textedit or whatever it's called.
