    Hi guys

I've searched the internet but its difficult to find Ireland related answers for my question!

s there any way of watching TV on my mac at home? I don't want internet channels but want the usual ones that you get with NTL/SKY etc.

We currently have NTL digital TV and am wondering is there a way I can somehow hook this up to my mini to have a second TV upstairs? Would want to change the channel upstairs without affecting downstairs. Not too fussed on getting all the digital channels, even if its just the analogue ones that come in with the digital RTE/BBC etc

Running a new mac mini with a Samsung T220 monitor.

    Cheers for any suggestions

    Simon

Elgato EyeTV Hybrid - you'll need a seperate cable point to use it and you'll only be able to get the analogue channels (basic tv).

+1 on the Hybrid, it's a solid tuner and the Eye TV software that comes with it is very good. You can also just split your existing cable but if the distance is too far, you'd be better off with the extra TV point like Talisman said.

Another option - and this is what I'm currently doing - is if you have a wireless router and it's close to the cable point you now have, you could use a Slingbox. This will send the signal wirelessly to your Mac and works very well. Expansys.ie has the Slingbox Classic reduced to €90.99 (it was cheaper a few months ago :() and at that cost, it works out about the same as the Eye TV:

The Classic will be fine for NTL Digital/Analog. The quality is not quite as good as having a tuner like the Hybrid, but it is good enough to watch. And you can also configure it to watch your TV over the Internet, when away from home...

One caveat though: the Slingbox is for watching TV only. It will not record, like the Eye TV can.

You can also hook the NTL box up to the Hybrid, should you wish to do so, but you won't get quite the same functionality as with the Hybrid channels. Basically you'll change the channel on your Mac to display whatever's on the NTL box, then change the channel using the NTL remote.

If you're in an area that can receive the test DTT signal from RTE, you can get the Irish channels and some radio in digital using the Hybrid too.
