Following the success of the new version of 'Beverly Hills, 90210', entitled '90210', its 1990s spin-off series 'Melrose Place' could also return to TV screens.
Variety reports that the CW network in the US, which screens '90210', and CBS Paramount Network TV are looking at the show's possible return.
The trade daily says that discussions are at an early stage.

I'll admit it i was a fan of this series

Maybe they will put a new cast living in the same building and have some cameos from the original cast

Most of the cast of full time jobs in other shows now.

Doug Savant and Marcia Cross on Desperate Housewives

Daphne Zuniga on One Tree Hill

    Heather Locklear in Rehab :p

Rob Estes on the new 90210

    Kelly Rutherford on Gossip Girl

I have to admit a soft spot for Melrose Place... cheesy as f**k, but good switch-off-your-brain TV. Marcia Cross gone loopy was a great character....

Melrose Place was brilliant! I so wanted to live there! Will be interesting to see what it's like if they bring it back. Need to bring back Michael Mancini.

Despite early denials otherwise, "One Tree Hill" creator Mark Schwahn is in negotiations to develop the CW's "Melrose Place" remake.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Schwahn has always been the network's top candidate, and it's only his commitment to "One Tree Hill" that's held up the announcement. About that commitment -- word is Schwahn will create the series and write the first episode, and then pass the show on to another producer so he can return to Tree Hill. The CW took a similar route with their "
90210" remake, which was first in the hands of "Veronica Mars" writer Rob Thomas.

Supernatural alumna and daughter-of-David - Katie Cassidy is packing her bags for Melrose Place, the CW's pilot reboot of the frothy Fox series. Cassidy will fill the role of Ella, a stylish up-and-coming publicist.

Mischa Barton is heading back to TV - she's in negotiations to star in the Melrose Place remake.

The former OC star has confirmed she is in talks to join the cast of the show.

Barton ended her run as rich kid Marissa Cooper on teen drama The OC in 2006.

I hated her on the OC

Ashlee Simpson has become the latest tenant of The CW's refurbished Melrose Place.
The onetime 7th Heaven star will play small-town girl Violet, a character whose disarming naiveté masks the calculating, shrewd sex kitten within. In other words, the little tramp's Sydney.

    another terrible casting

One person who won't be moving back into Melrose Place? Heather Locklear. The actress -- who played the key role of Amanda Woodward on the original series -- has turned down an offer to join the cast of the CW's update of the hit Fox serial, EW has learned. "There wasn't a way to bring her back that made sense," says a source close to the situation. While the network and studio won't comment, her reps do confirm that Locklear has passed.

    Its a shame

It's finally here, folks: the premiere of the new Melrose Place The rebooted Melrose follows a familiar formula: A dashing array of twentysomethings pursue life and love in Los Angeles, where they all live in the same apartment complex. But there is much that is new as well, including a multiepisode murder storyline in which many of the Place's residents are suspects. Here's a quick primer before you watch the premiere (Tuesday, 9/8c, CW):

    Who's back from the original?
Laura Leighton (Sydney Andrews) and Thomas Calabro (Michael Mancini) anchor the cast of young'uns, and their devious characters haven't changed a bit. "I think Sydney's always been sort of doomed to be the center of controversy," says Leighton, "and she's very much in that position." Indeed, as Melrose Place's new landlady, Sydney plays a central role in the season's first few episodes, as we learn about her fractious relationships with the building's tenants — romantic and otherwise.
Calabro, meanwhile, couldn't have been happier to try on Michael's bad-guy hat again. "I was very excited to find out he had even more money than before and ultimate power," he says. "So I thought, you know, if he continues to be an evildoer, that bodes well for his ability to do so." But the actor points out that Michael's motivations are mostly good. "He [does] bad things to preserve his good life," he says. "He has a family and he's trying to keep it together."
What's that, a family? Yes, in addition to an initially unseen nuclear family, Michael is also the father of one of the building's tenants, David (Shaun Sipos), and their relationship is anything but cozy. You see, David inherited the bad-boy gene, and also his pop's taste for redheads.

Who are the other new kids?
Perhaps the biggest name in the new cast is newly redheaded pop star Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, who plays Violet, a small-town girl who recently arrived in L.A. "It's fun to play the innocent side, but the really innocent girl is probably not so innocent," she says. "She's got a dark side."

Also on board are a pair of lovebirds, à la Billy and Allison: filmmaker Jonah (Michael Rady) and schoolteacher Riley (Jessica Lucas), whose initial predicament appears to be whether to grow up and get married. Med student Lauren (Stephanie Jacobsen) takes an interesting career path when she has trouble paying the bills. Chef and recovering alcoholic Auggie (Colin Egglesfield) has a small, but significant role in the first episode.
And Katie Cassidy, daughter of teen pop icon David, plays Ella, a power-hungry publicist who appears to be the heir — and hair — apparent to Heather Locklear's Amanda Woodward. But there's a catch: Ella's sexual preference is more all-encompassing. "We call her 'try-sexual,' which is to say she will try anything," jokes co-executive producer Todd Slavkin.

    What's this about a murder?
By the end of the first hour, one of the main characters will be doing a dead-man's float, Sunset Boulevard-style, in the Place's pool. Though we won't reveal the identity of the victim (it has been widely spoiled on the Internet, so, you know, Google it), the repercussions will stretch out for much of the first season, and beyond.

"The idea of mystery and suspense and intrigue is very much a part of the overall tone of the show," says Darren Swimmer, Melrose's co-executive producer. "And so whether or not an initial murder is solved, there will still be plenty of mystery and suspense and some crime elements and fun stuff like that."
    Will Heather Locklear return?

"Well, the door is always open for Heather Locklear," says Slavkin. "We're huge fans of hers and, you know, have a great way for her to come into the show." In the meantime, while continuing rumours of Locklear's return swirl, fans of the original can look forward to guest spots by Josie Bissett, who played Michael's first wife Jane, and streetwise photographer Jo Reynolds, played by Daphne Zuniga. Both are scheduled to appear in the first batch of fall episodes.

Which other alum might return to Melrose Place?
What else can we look forward to?
At least two of the cast members will work together at a hip Los Angeles eatery, which will take the place of the original's hangout, Shooters. As there is a murderer on the loose, security will be a concern, and the newly installed cameras around the pool will capture more than just swimming. "They kind of said, 'Yeah, some crazy stuff is going to happen and you will see," Rady says. "The scripts keep coming out and we are like, 'What?'"

It's getting very mixed reviews. The original was cheesy fun, but I think I'll give this one a skip. I might check the first one out for nostalgia's sake (if even just to see how far Katie Cassidy has fallen since Supernatural.... could she fall any lower than Harpers Island? It seems so....)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

OK....i saw the first ep. few hours ago, i liked it!....nice to see Sidney and there is a BIG shocker for her that launches the show. Katie Cassidy.....WHY did she go blonde?????

She looked great in Harpers Island, it had the fast cutting/slick production you've come to expect from CW shows like 90210 the The Beautiful Life.

I am gonna keep up with it, but i did like the first ep. :-)

just watched the first two episodes of this and i liked it gonna stick with to see how it develops.. i can remember the old series but only very vaguely.i remember watching some episodes of it but can't really remember anything that happened, so maybe thats a good thing.. anyone else watching it?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

It's not great, i like Johah and that super HOT girl who starred as Riley in CSI Vegas a couple of seasons back. I'll stick with it but it's not a good show per se, i thought the pilot was better then the second episode.

I'll stick with it for now as some shows have hickups at the start and they change things a few eps. in.

Heather Locklear will return to Melrose Place later this fall, The CW has confirmed.

The 47-year-old actress, who played Amanda Woodward on the 1990s series, will reprise her role on Tuesday, November 17.

"We're ecstatic to have the chance to bring Amanda Woodward back to Melrose Place," said executive producers Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer.

"Heather’s involvement in the show is something we've been working on for some time as we couldn't imagine creating and producing this show without the iconic character’s inclusion."

    Will this help the ratings?

No, it'll get cancelled after one season....i hear rumours about a show in development about girls competing in horse jumping set in the Hamptons, rich girls on horses....clearly a CW winner for next season.

She claims she is, and apparently stole some of her DNA and compared it to her own, mommy dearest moment.

Can i add, this show is tanking in the ratings.....it's doing really bad in the target demographic, which is all The CW cares about as it equals advertising etc.

I must check to see if The CW ordered 10 or 13 episodes.

At the risk of asking a stupid question, what channel can the new Melrose Place be seen on? I was 10 or 11 when the original series came out and had a massive crush on Heather Locklear. She looks fabulous for 47.

The ratings for 90210 were also bad at the start but it got picked up for a full season and a second season.

I'm looking forward to seeing the other old cast back Jane, Jo and Amanda. I'm hoping Peter and Jake will also show up.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

Strangely, The CW has ordered a further 6 episodes???....Heather Locklear returns for a few episodes on Nov. 17th....apparently they hope this will boost ratings.

If it continues to drop then The CW may need to revise things, they actually have a mid-season show with Shiri Appleby on stand-by. It's called :ife Unexpected and the promo for it looks very good.

I think they should bump this show up for broadcast.

The very lovely Daphne Zuniga returned the Melrose last night, she didn't do alot but was nice to see her. Any MP fan will know she was a major character on the show, but can even Heather Locklear save the show?????

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield have been dropped from The CW's Melrose Place reboot.

The actors, who play Violet and Augie respectively, will make their final appearances on screen in January after the murder mystery storyline reaches a climax in December.

"We always knew that this murder mystery would end in episode 12," executive producer Todd Slavkin told Entertainment Weekly. "And we always knew that [Ashlee's] character of Violet would be instrumental in that as a suspect, and [Colin's character] Augie as well.

"And once that murder mystery was solved, she would go on her way. That was the original plan going into the development of the show."

I'm guessing one them is killed or is the killer

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is said to have acted like a "diva" on the set of Melrose Place.

The 25-year-old was recently confirmed to be leaving the CW series along with actor Colin Egglesfield and the pair will make their final appearances in a January episode.

It has been suggested that the actress, who played Violet Foster on the reboot, was asked to leave the show because she was "deeply disliked" by her co-stars, Fox News reports.

"Ashlee was kicked off Melrose Place because she was a total diva on set, late all the time, and deeply disliked by fellow cast members. It created a lot of discord among the cast [and] she could barely act," a source said.

The insider also claimed that the firings were brought about to bring back Heather Locklear and to allegedly meet her salary demands to reprise her Amanda Woodward character from the original Fox series.

"They basically trimmed the fat and made it possible for Heather to join the show. Heather is a much bigger name than Ashlee," the source added.

Jessica Simpson recently claimed that Melrose Place was "crap" following the announcement of her sister's exit from the show.

I'd prefer Heather back than Ashlee tbh

Heather needs to lay off the botox but it was great seeing her back as Amanda

Any chance Ella is Amanda's daughter or they are related somehow?

I think Michael or his wife killed Sydney

Another lesbo scene!!!!!!....it was actually pretty hot!
Big ramp up in sex in this ep. - i agree, i think it's Michael's wife (Brooke Burns) who iced Sydney....too predictable to be Simpson Wentz chick. As you say, Ella might be Amanda's daugther.

Riley (Jessica Lucas) is just stunning beyond belief!....and boobs...BOOBS!!!
