New macbooks - fan noise and other issues?

Has anyone had a decent look at the new macbooks? Do they suffer from the incredibly irritating fan noise problem that the black and white macbooks have, i.e. sounding like a jet engine if you have a few apps or youtube open?

Are there any other issues reported about it so far?

I haven't had any hands on experience yet but looking around the net there's quite a few complaints about crooked trackpads, loose battery covers, trapped dust, slanted keys, overly loud spacebars and a lot of dead pixels, etc. Enough issues to confirm my decision to wait for the next revision.

two issues i've heard of are:

battery / drive latch either being loose or becoming loose after it is take off and replaced, ref: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=584475

other issue i've seen mentioned are 'slanted' function keys, but haven't seen any pics etc yet

Played around with a new Mac Book pro for a few hours last week and never heard the fan come on.

Should have my MacBook sometime next week (apparently it shipped, but seems to be on the boat from China!) so I'll let you know then...

I've had the 2.4ghz Macbook for nearly 2 weeks now and the fan has never kicked into high mode. it's constantly on, according to the stats, at 2000rpm, but unless i'm sitting in a completely silent room i've not heard it, and even in a silent room, you really have to concentrate to hear it!! - I use iStatPro widget and check it quiet regularly and all has been good thus far. I must say, i got a nice laptop platform for using the macbook in bed so that it's not sitting on the duvet directly (this is the one I got in the Laptop Shop - http://www.allsop.com/travel-accessories/cool-channel-platform/ )

The processor temp ranges, on average, from 40-50c... (currently the stats say 49c, but i can't really feel any heat off the bottom of the unit)... it once hit 70, and that was hot, but the fan wasn't any louder, and it cooled down very quickly.

If you've any specific q's feel free to PM me.

    T.

That's great belmulletman, thanks for your reply.

It is good news that the fan noise isn't an issue, but I think i'll wait til revision 2 before I buy...I got burnt buying the rev 1 black macbook and I lost a lot of confidence in Apple after the troubles I had with them.

Given the shipping estimate that I'm seeing (shipped on the 24th but expected to arrive on the 5th?) from Apple directly, I think these have not reached Ireland yet and their main shipment should be arriving sometime next week. You'll probably see them in stores then and people who ordered online should get them around the same time. I may be wrong though... I checked yesterday and the status is: "In transit to destination country. Next update in 4-5 days" - that sure sounds like they're on a boat from China :).

I got mine in 3G store in Stephens Green the Saturday after they were launched (I have to admint, i was very very surprised that a store in the city had them only days after they were announced). I also know for 100% sure that 3G in Dundrum had / have them.
They defo got in both the 2ghz and 2.4ghz models of the Macbook (not sure about the MB Pro).
I know they only, on that Saturday, got 2 of the 2.4ghz models in. I got there 10min's after they got their delivery and got mine, and the other one went while i was in the store.
Just phone around and see where they are!
Personally i've no problem buying things online, but there's something about having the reassurance of a "brick & mortar" when you're spending 1500euro on a laptop. I've had no problems with my macbook, it's been very good to me thus far.

If anyone has any questions they'd like me to answer drop me a PM and if i can, i will!

    T.

Cool, so I was wrong :). Fair play to 3G stores for having them in stock so quickly - now if only Apple would get mine delivered already. I've never had a delivery from them take quite so long but then again, I've never bought a Mac so close to launch either...

When did you order and how long are you waiting? My order processed very quickly.

Ordered on the 17th, shipped on the 24th but the tracking details simply state that it is en route to destination country and still give an estimate of 5th/6th November. No tracking details yet - as of yesterday, it changed to "handover to final courier". I just checked now and it's "In Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule" but still no tracking number... hopefully it'll show up Monday morning :).
