Hair disaster!

    Hi,

My natural hair colour is what could be described as a dirty light brown - from the age of 15/16 i've got blonde highlights.

I cant remember when it started but recently when I have got my highlights done over the next few days my scalp develops little scabs - not all over my head, like a chalky texture, when scratched there is is a small bit of a watery liquid (like when you scratch an insect bite) and they are very itchy - then after about 3 days they clear up!

While I can deal with the pain my sister and mother have both spoken to their hairdressers who both say it may continue to get worse and wouldn't advise continue just "putting up with it" - when I suggested natural colours they said there is no guarantee I won't react to them also and the colour may not take either way!

Can anyone help because everyone is just telling me it isnt good but are not giving me any better suggestions!! - I would be willing to go darker to try return to a close shade of my natural colour thus not needing highlights but I am not going through months of letting my bright blond highlights grow out!

Thanks in advance for any good advice!!

If it's the bleach you're allergic to then you might be ok getting highlights using tint, which would be less severe. You should have a chat with the hairdresser and have a patch test done first though.
Another thing you could consider would be getting highlights done the old-fashioned way using a bag or cap because that way the product doesn't come into contact with your scalp.
An experienced hairdresser will be able to help you.

I am a hairdresser for 21years, I have come across people having different reactions to different types of products. I would greee with your sis & mom's hairdresser, if you are having a reaction don't persist. Herbal colours can still cause a reaction, although they contain less chemicals they still contain chemicals, this does not mean that you have to have dark roots. You can use semi colour to cover lites. This type of product can contain very little in the way of irrantants, but be sure to advise the hairdresser of previous allergic reactions. Make sure to get patch tested, do not wash your hair for at least 24hrs prior to the service. I do not advise that you go the root of shop colours because if they go wrong they are particularly difficult ( & expensive) to fix. Talk to your hairdresser.
    Wish you luck:)
