Starting a new band (Dublin)...

Right, I'm lookin' to get a new band started. I'm not sure exactly what musical direction I'd be looking for this band to take. All I know is what direction I know I don't want it to take.

Stuff I don't want:

Hardcore, screaming type vocals.
Wánky guitar solos.
Blues type songs about meeting the devil at the crossroads, etc.
A pop punk type sound.


Here's a few bands that would sum up what kind of sound I'd be open to:
At the drive in, the arcade fire, Dredg, faith no more, Isis, minus the bear, tool, radiohead....that kind of thing.

Also, whatever you play, you gotta have a decent level of proficiency with yer instrument. I'd be more happy with someone telling me that a song that my band had written was shít based on the fact that we're just shít songwriters and not as a result of the musicians in the band just not being very good at their instruments.

Oh and last thing, I play guitar...like every other fúcker on the planet so preferably replies from people who play something other than guitar for the moment would be great.

Hey, i'm kinda in the same boat as yourself here. i'm looking to start a band myself me and my mates, i play guitar but not very goo but i'm a half decent singer, my friends are pretty good on bass and drums...

I'm big into some of the bands you metioned, and Arcade Fire are my fav band ever, i also know were your coming from with the wanky solos and hardcore screaming **** splash. I write lyrics constantly, i could send you some anytime. I don't have a recording of my voice but i use to be in an indie band and i could hold my own. I really think the songs i work on myself with the little i know on guitar can be good. With help and ideas from other musicans such as my mates and yourself i think we could go other there and show those other wanky bands that try to be Kings of Leon and the Kooks how its done.

pm me if ya wanna talk about doing something, cos were looking to give this band thing a good shot. we've a few songs we wanna work on and the option of a second guitarist from an old band i was in...

hi, i like the bands you listed there (although i haven't really heard arcade fire). I like singing and I make a fair bit of electronic music of some description ( like atmospheric soundtracky stuff, but also faster more complex stuff too, whatever comes to mind). I will mention I play guitar too, but I come from a more fiddley classical background there. pm me if you want. I have a crap memory for things i've just read , did you say you're near Dublin?
