im an 18 year old union player but im fairly interested in playing league next year . I've played leinster schools senior cup and been capped for leinster schools but ever since i lived in new zealand when i was 16 i have had a huge interest in league and would really like to learn to play the game . Are there any underage teams like under 20s or anything as im unsure if i would be able to handle the physicality of the full on senior sides just yet ? and what clubs are there in south west dublin ?

Hey Hiney, congrats on your willingness to try league, great for the skills/fitness! I'm not based in Ireland so I'm afraid I'm not much help. But if you log on to www.rli.ie and check out the club finder on the home page it lists clubs and contacts in Ireland.

I'd start with the Dublin City Exiles if I were you, give them a bell or drop them an e-mail and take it from there. Good Luck.

We have a couple of lads who played this year for us at 16 and one is a scrum half in union to give you an idea of size. Sam Burgess made his debut at 17 for the Bradford Bulls, and that was at prop, probably the most physical position on the pitch! You'll be fine and probably find the experience helps you in Union :)

In South Dublin you have the Tallaght Tigers, the Dublin Exiles who play out of Terenures ground and the Dublin Blues. Good luck with which ever team you end up at.
