Just thought I'd let ye all know the clocks go back an hour tonight (something to do with the budget no doubt). Thanks to papa cushion for reminding me so that I don't go to work an hour early tomorrow. :)

One phone went back an hour, another one went forward, and the wall clock stayed the same. So confuzzled.

So if this happens what will Ireland do??

Saturday, October 28, 2006 The UK wants to scrap winter GMT
A radical shake-up of Britain's seasonal clock would save hundreds of lives every year, council leaders have claimed. Pushing the whole time system forward by an hour would make roads far safer for children and cyclists, according to the Local Government Association (LGA).
Apparently, "shifting our clocks an hour forward would prevent more than 450 deaths and serious injuries on our roads each year. The evening rush hour is the most dangerous time for road users."

Under the suggested regime, clocks would stay as they currently are every winter rather than going back, as is due to happen tomorrow. They would then go forward a further hour in spring, putting them two hours ahead of GMT.

The LGA is calling for a three year trial of the Single/Double Summer Time (SDST) clock arrangement.

** The Summer Time Act of 1972 defined British Summer Time to start at 2am (GMT) on the morning of the day after the third Saturday in March, ending at 2am (GMT) on the day after the fourth Saturday in October.

What a load of old twaddle.

"the day after the third Saturday in March" & "the day after the fourth Saturday in October".
It's called Sunday FFS just say Sunday. :D

Actually it's not the same thing. If the month starts on a Saturday then the day after the 3rd Saturday will be Sunday the 16th. In that case yes you could simply say the 3rd Sunday.

But if the month starts on a Sunday, then the day after the 3rd Saturday would be the Sunday the 22nd which is actually the 4th Sunday.

So the simplest way to set the rule is to say the day after the 3rd Saturday.

I'm not disputing the way the calculations are done, you misunderstood my point. I'm just stating the day after Saturday is always Sunday, no real need to beat around the bush, just say Sunday.

But javaboy is showing you why they can't just say Sunday. Try read it again.

And Hagar's point is that it should just read
"the Sunday after the third Saturday in March" & "the Sunday after the fourth Saturday in October".

And I always thought is simply the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October...:o
