Depends really on the amount of responses and postions available. The longest i've been left waiting was a month. But this was for a full time post.

A lot of places dont bother informing you when they have filled the place and leave you wondering. I would give them a call Monday afternoon and say something along the lines of 'Hi its Esteban here I applied for the postion of xxxxx and was wondering if the place was filled'

If you're applying to a recruitment agency, and you're not getting a reply, call them again, and then they might sort you out. That approach worked fine for me

    Give them a call.

I had a similar thing happen to me in my current job, I gave the boss a ring and said whats up, he said come in tomorrow.

If they have given a date then there may not be any point in emailing. The company might be conducting more than one open day, or they may have decided to do follow-up interviews with certain candidates. There's no harm in emailing but don't surprised if you're told that they'll be letting people know before next Friday.
