a question, im not a big gamer but i have never reallly owned a game machine as such. a friend is selling a psp chipped with case and 4gb , case and loads of games for 80. seems like a good deal, to be honest i would be more interested in the internet, music and film watching capabilities more than the gaming aspect.does anyone know how the movie and internet quality is?what do you think? is this worth the cash as i believe its quite cheap or am i going in the wrong direction.

    thanks in addvance.

thanks talkingclock, can you tell me what is it like for watching films etc, basically just thinking of putting tv series etc on it if possible? is it an easy process, i see that the umd format of films has been stopped so just wondering if you can still put movies on it?? plus what is it like for using the internet on? i really dont have much of an idea about it at all. thanks!:)

Sound quality for films is very bad tbh...And that is being nice about it

I think the PSP makes a pretty crap movie player, and internet device.

Movie player - The screen is very poor. The pixels can't change from black->white fast enough (response time), with the result that most films have horrible blurry 'ghosting' all over the place.

Also, the codec support is a bit fiddly, in many instances you'll need to re-encode any movie files you have.

    Internet device - completely useless.

You might decide that it's still worth the money, but that's an honest appraisal above of its capabilities.

thanks for the feedback, not exactly raving reviews.to be honest i dont think i will be going for it then.might explain why the fella is so keen to get rid of it. i know he wants to get the new one which ive read has a better screen etc.just thought the price was reasonable but if it doesnt support what i was looking for there isnt much point, thanks!

The screen is pretty bad. The new PSP-3000 is supposed to have a better screen. If you want a good internet and media device, I would suggest an iPod Touch. It's a brilliant internet device and a music and video player.

screw an ipod touch, just looking at them archos internet media tablets, they look yummy tbh, especially the achos 7.

then again portability would be a factor as i've never held one before.

For what it's worth I've enjoyed watchng movies on my PSP much more than my Archos 504. Had no issue with the sound, maybe the other reviewers were using the stock headphones which are volume limited. Movies have to be encoded to mp4 but there's various freeware apps for that.
The browser is usable, but doesn't support Flash.

I'll echo what everyone else has said. €80 for a modded psp with all that is an absolute bargain. Definitely worth it....if you're a gamer.

It's not a good media device at all though. I have a Zen vision m 30gb for listening to music and watching things on the go. Not going to waste my time reincoding video to work with the psp. Plus there just isn't enough space on a duo pro card to fit all that. And I have an 8gb!

    www.portablefilmfestival.com
    Also, if you're into it
www.pspanime.com (this site goes up and down, but when it's up it's good)
