It's coming up to Christmas time and Tommy has a DVD to sell. He'll be on the Late Late in a few minutes and it's time to crank up the patented Tommy Tiernan Controversometer; the tried and tested method of ensuring that every household in Ireland is legally obliged to have at least one copy of the DVD in the house in Christmas Day.

He was on Ray D'arcy this morning but couldn't decide whether it was lesbians, the disabled or the tabloids themselves that he wanted to go off on one about.

So, level headed and thoughtful AH types, can we place our bets now as to how Tommy is going to rock the country to it's very core with his crazed taboo breaking and sacred cow slaying?

Making fun of the recent Z-day marches outside Leinster House is the obvious one if he's going for controversy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,752 ✭✭✭markesmith

he's patronising us. And Gerry Ryan is a preening imbecile.

    LOL, good one!

If Tommy T wants to cause ructions, he should strongly defend the current budget and give Gerry Ryan a wedgie.

He was imitating the non-nationals. I think he just tries to be as controversial as he can. He doesn't need to be though. He was funny years ago talking about other stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,752 ✭✭✭markesmith

Just putting together yer usual stereotypes of Asians, travellers (capitalise?), Poles, etc. Gerry Ryan, jesus, he's a hard man to listen to and look at.

Ah come on, it might be a Television thread now but tomorrow morning it's a tabloid outrage and where better than AH for the kind of rabid invective that will invite.

Not funny. Worst performance on the Late late for some time, he just roars now. I'd never trust a comedian who starts with "I'll tell ya a funny story...". Great future behind him......

his actual stuff is very very funny.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,313 ✭✭✭✭Sam Kade

What he needs is one good kick up the arse. What an idiot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,978 ✭✭✭GhostInTheRuins

I didn't see the late late but I just don't understand the adoration for Tommy Tiernan in general. Maybe I just don't get it but I don't find him funny in the slightest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Tiernan has had his day. His act ceased to become relevant about three years ago. His one dimensional 'controversial' act needs to be parked at this stage.

WAKE UP PEOPLE, tommy tiernan is NOT funny. hes delibritly trying to be controversial and seems to do it every time hes on the late late show.

his act isn't funny either all he does is shout and swear a lot and half his jokes seem to be about jesus or religion.

he should be taken round back and shot.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who can't bear the sight of him. :) The problem is, the general public doesn't always have good taste. How else can you explain the popularity of Crocs or Westlife and Fair City?

Leave him at the front and give him a slow death. That way we will know for sure that he won't be comming back.

Oh, would that be from the Bernard Manning/Jim Davidson sense of humour school because I can only think that the same people who find them "hilarious" would find Tiernan spouting his ignorant, intolerant, racist crap funny.

I have a perfectly good sense of humour thanks, in fact, after yet another hate-filled swipe at Travellers I switched over in complete disgust to Jonathan Ross where I quite happily laughed away at REAL wit and humour.

His Tshirt was the only bit that made me laugh - looks like someone's been shopping in Asha.

If he wanted to get a cheap laugh he could have just taken the hat off, 'cos he's not fooling anyone.

You left out Chubby !! I am not here to defend Mr.Tiernan, he has his moments, some funny, some not.

As for your "sense of humour", thats a very personal choice, obviously people are different, just because one laughs at a "racist" joke does not make them racist. Vulgarity is ok to laugh at if it is funny !

If easily offended you should not read the next bit. ;)

    As for me :
I like my humour like dead babies, the bluer the better.

Darragh O'Brien has eclipsed Tiernan over the last year or so. Fact!

Alright, and I'll take the funnier O'Brien.

And what do you mean by 'sell out'?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,316 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

I think the fact that he went to Britain and made a career for himself due to having actual talent rather than just shouting while on stage like Tiernan means that he's a sell-out.

    +1

Also, didn't a certain Tommy Tiernan go to the US not so long ago?

I like Tommy Tiernan, I do. But sometimes he just tries too hard.
