How well do members of Non-National groups get on?

    ...here in Ireland.

How do they perceive each other?

Chinese, Polish, Slovakian, people from the Indian Sub-Continent, South Americans, Africans.

Do they generally interact with each other, outside of the work environment (I work with people from all over the planet, and we all seem to get on generally well).

Do certain people not "like" others, as a rule?

    Anyone got any insight?

You mean with other non-nationals? Or just with people in general?

With members of other non-national groups.

Can we use World War's I & II as examples or must we stick with recent times in Ireland?.

I'm pretty sure most of them have nations.....

They all seem to get along in my experience. Next question please :)

I'd say option B to fúck . Option A lacks relevance or something. I don't know. Frankly, you frighten me Máirt... Don't be mad at my flippant response. :o

Well, Irish still use events over a time period of 800 years to "hate de brits", so work away.

We all meet up twice a week to plot more "Stealin yer wimmins" and "Takin yer jobz".

We get along fine as this twice weekly meeting promotes a kind of kinship between us, allowing us to infiltrate and undermine your society far more effectively.

I think Pakistanis and Indians don't either. Especially sonsidering they just got lumped together as the "Indian subcontinent"! Accrate, though it may be.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The jews and the arabs aren't fond of each other.

Its actually Israeli's and Arabs, the religions get along ok. In fact there's Jewish communities in Arab countries.

I don't think the Polish like de jermuns at all.

HA, I didn't see this thread before I posted this one. :D

This is kind of what I was talking about.

    Why though?

It's not a city wide thing I just think a lot of people in Dublin refuse to believe anything happens outside the city...although a lot of culchies seem to hate Dublin people.

As for the original question, I remember a few years ago there used to be a lot of stories in the papers of stabbings between eastern Europeans, not sure if this is because they don't get on or if its just how they handle their business.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,177 ✭✭✭DenMan

Country people for some reason do not like the Dubs. This is quite strange as quite a large number of them were/are educated there (3rd Level). They also go to a lot gigs there, have mates who decided to permanently stay in Dublin. There has to be a little bit of effort made, after all they did decide to leave home to further their education.

Regarding the OP's post. During a friendly chat between nations in Bolton I had to mediate between a heated debate with Indian and Pakististani students over the morality and ethical standards between Buddhism and Islamic beliefs.Did my best but it went tits up pretty quickly. Very different people they are.

It seems to me that they "nothing" each other. Don't bother each other but are not necessarily doing a "we are the world" dance with each other. Never seen a group of Polish lads with Chinese guys for example outside of learning english together.

Perhaps the Polish see themselves "Polish" and then everyone else who isn't Polish in which case if they see an Irish guy or a Spainish guy they don't think anything in particular. They just see people who don't speak Polish.

I dunno, best ask them sure!

I was dropping off a package today and there was an Asian couple doing the same. The black guy behind the counter asked them how much the package was worth. The Asian guy said what sounded like "fifty" and the guy behind the counter said back to him "fifty euro?" - this caused the girl to shout "FIFTEEN!" in a OMG j00 so stoo-pid kind of way. She then launched into a big spiel of a rant in her own language which ended in "fifteen, lol".

Probably nothing to do with them being from different parts of the world, more to do with language barriers. Or maybe she was just being bitchy for the sake of it.

That said, I've a Portuguese friend who's always hanging out with Spanish/Italians/French/Poles/Austrians whenever I see him, so it can depend on the person rather than the "group" they belong to.

Dey tuk ur jurrbs !!!

Now that thats out of the way can someone please tell me what a "non-national" is ?? By my reasoning its someone without a nationality, which is very unlikely.

I mentioned here before I used to work with a lovely Kenyan woman. There was one other girl from Nigeria working with us and my pal and the Nigerian girl barely spoke. She said not to assume because they're from the same continent that they're similar. She said Kenyan people are more like us personality wise and in foods they eat and stuff, she would eat what we eat except she would add a lot more spices whereas Nigerians eat the intestines of an animal not the muscle or offal.
She was mad interesting to listen to. I asked her if it was true about black men and their mickeys being massive and she said she only saw her husband's. so she couldn't truthfully say. She also didn't like being called 'coloured', she preferred to be called 'black'.

We just lie low for a while, all quiet like ...then we infiltrate ...and then we take over. (starting with boards)

    *insert evil laugh*

The sociologists say that greater ethnic diversity decreases social trust if that's any help.

They come here and take our jobs:cool:

I was walking on a street on New Delhi a couple of months back. Saw a homeless guy sitting on the sidewalk. The man takes his cellphone(to give him some credit he's homeless he won't have a landline)out and says 'customer service, Christopher speaking'. What's this about us taking the jobs, we can sit back home if we wanted to do that. I love saying this to the brits. They came to our country first and left with our recipes (macaroni and tandoori cheese), now it's our turn;).

This is a joke don't take it seriously

Getting back to the topic I think it depends more on the personalities of the individuals rather than their nationalities.

I used to work with a lot of Chinese and East European people and the only annoying thing is when you are standing in a group and they start speaking in their native language. I just find this practice disrespectful.

I worked with a guy from Lithuania, he was born there and he grew up there, but according to him, he's Russian, and he hates Lithuanians.

After the war, when the Russians occupied most of Eastern Europe, Russian citizens moved to these countries to impose the communist ideals and were 'more equal' than their native neighbours. The natives of the occupied countries were 2nd class citizens. So they hated each other.

This animosity was passed down from generation to generation and still exists today.

I know a group of Russians and Estonians and they hate each other and dont get on one bit

Don't know where you gettin' these ideas about the Germans being hated by the Poles and the Swiss and whatnot. Maybe they are, I don't know. But a story like a German sittin' on a Swiss guys seat and the Swiss guy saying WWII stuff sounds bit like 'the Sun' fueled fantasies to me.

Where do I get this idea from? Well, I'm German and I've come around a bit and I live here for a good few years now and I have never experienced anything like that. Probably means they're all doing it behind my back

I work with people from all sorts of countries and we're all getting along quite nicely. Must be an education thing. Oh and I don't hang out with other Germans or continentals. I hang out with people I like whereever they're from, most of them happen to be Irish. I play golf with a Czech fella and footie with a couple of Polish lads. We don't seem to hate each other but we don't hang out together because we're all 'not from here' either.

I don't have a problem with Dubliners, but Dublin itself is a hole, and a bit of an embarassment.

Being objective though, Cork is a lovely city. In fact, the bulk of cities and large towns in Ireland are generally nice places...excpet for that cesspool.
