I will be looking to get some part time work shortly and have the CV done out. Should I apply a cover letter to each one? I'm going to be handing them out to whatever shops I can see (retail).

Are CVs alone ok for part time jobs?

I put a short cover letter on my CV when I went for my part-time job.
    Nothing special, just:

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to apply for a position.... yada yada yada

You need to make sure you are doing everything possible to get yourself the job.

A cover letter tailored for each employer - will that improve your chance of getting a job? Absolutely. So a little bit of extra work is worth it, especially considering how competitive the job market is at the moment (and it is very competitive at the moment - I run a couple of jobsites.)

Make sure you are well dressed and smiley, and only give your CV to the manager.

I don't know where you live, but the pub on the corner of Wexford Street and Kevin Street in Dublin 2/8 has been looking for part-time staff for quite a while now.

Grand. I'll see what I can do. I assumed cover letters were only for full timers. I suppose it would not hurt to let them know I'm looking for part time.
