What do you think of this open office instead of Microsoft office? Any problems?

Dell XPS M1310 - Open Office is grand, easy and free, I prefer MS Office myself though. €939 - a little over your original estimate but well worth it.

I use a lenovo x61 and find it is excellent, I also use open office and prefer it to MS office 07, only drawback is that writer is not compatible with docx although I think an update is due out soon to remedy that.

Agreed, XPS 1330 is awesome. I got one recently. Best purchase I've made in a long time!
