Depends. If your getting it for online only then no, its not worth it because the online is very poor. But if its for playing against your friends or the AI then yes, its excellent. Best Pro ev imo. Champions League mode is great. But if you want to play online get FIFA 09. I have both;)

I've been trying to decide whether to buy this or the new FIFA, I don't play enough to warrant buying both, last year I was kinda burned, I bought FIFA, liked it, but had decided to trade it in for the new Pro Evo, and was very disappointed. So I've put off buying one so far this year.

    Opinions??

I did it the other way - I bought that pile of donkeypoo that was PES2008. I got sense and traded in for my first ever FIFA, and what a good choice it was. Got 2009 when it came out and it is getting better and better.

I thought the ps2 pro evos were the best but the ps3 and 360 are rubbish whats the champions league yolk like?

Downloaded the demo of PE09 to check it out, very disappointing.

Unfortunately it seems that the dev team have some how just given up on Pro Evo when it comes to the next-gen machines. One could excuse ProEvo 6 and even ProEvo 2008 looking like a hi-res PS2 game with the idea that the team were just getting used to the new hardware. But 2009 still looks like a high resolution PS2 game.

Lots of people will say that the graphics are secondard, and of course they are right, but the game play has only been going through minor tweaks in the last few updates. And a lot of people still prefer 3 or 4.

So with this basically being nothing more than a tweaked PS2 conversion you have to wonder is it worth the money.

And you have to wonder wtf is going on at Konami

That demo is from July 08, doesnt do the final product justice imo.....

It saddens me to say it but FIFA has taken over the #1 spot

    nothing sad about it

pes has been the same game for the last 3-4 years, ea finally got the finger out and started pushing things forward which was needed

I'm not going to get it. They just seemed to have fixed the problems with last years one and added Be A Legend mode ( which is a complete copy of fifa's Be A Pro mode). Fifa 09 just feels better to play.

Afaik Pro evo has had become a legend for years, its just only been available in asia...

I don't understand the Fifa arguments. Fifa was terrible and has finally managed to get decent year by year.

Pes has been tweaked because major gameplay issues didn't need major overhauls.

I don't see this as an argument to buy Fifa in itself-PES still has the better gameplay for me. Thats all important.

I was skeptical of getting the new PES until I played the demo. The gameplay was as good as the older PS2 versions, the framerate issues of PES2008 were gone completely and the reviews of its online were good.

I bought PES2009 and so far, I feel I made the right purchase. I have never liked FIFA's gameplay. The Be a Pro mode was a good addition but it was still all based on the same gameplay.

OP, I would suggest renting both and deciding for yourself.

New Pro Evo is excellent. Gameplay again so much better that fifa. Gameplay seems a bit slower but its better. Very happy. Haven't tried it on line yet though.

Those saying the gameplay is "so much better than fifa" havent played fifa in about 3 years/Bloody fanboys IMO. I got both and fifa has definitely passed pes this year.

have to say ive always been a pro evo man but transfered to the dark side last year and i have to say fifa have there nose in front for the 09's aswell.
    Fifa 09 defo.
2010 i really hope pro evo get a handle of the ps3, im betting the will be back on top nxt year.

Hmmm, I love Pro Ev, and I have 2009 already, but I am thinking of buying Fifa 09 too. It would be the first Fifa game I've bought since 2000 on the PS1.

Is it really worth it, when I already own and enjoy Pro Ev 2009?

I was a die-hard pro evo fan on ps2 and I thought 2008 on the 360 was decent. This year, with all the hype around fifa 09 and the lack thereof around pro evo I tried both and I have to say I very much like fifa 09. It's much more of a passing game than pro evo where it's so easy to run past 3/4players. Plus fifa online is excellent.

I've played new Fifa and Pro Ev now. I'm a Pro Evo man and always have been. Being honest I think the new Fifa is very impressive. I'm quite shocked, can't decide which game is better:eek: I'd normally write off but Fifa but it's class!

Ive arged blindly for PES until i got this years one
Had returned it for FIFA with 3 days
Fifas Be A Pro is simply 100 times better than PES's
Also I wasnt even able to get online with it while Fifa was simple
The only advantage I found was that the exhibition games are still full of excitement but Im afraid other than a game against a friend in the same room FIFA wins hands down!
