I decided to comment with the first thing that came to my head - That's the Sh**. So I decided to ask hubbie what the first word that comes to his head is as I turned the screen to him, he said LOTTO.

    That picture is UNREAL.

Well, the processing and angle is excellent. However I doubt that the car was supposed to pass the garages so quickly. I love it, however the garages on the right spoil a little the effect of the speed. Sorry for that.

Terrific shot. Would be interested to hear what kind of PP was used...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,393 ✭✭✭AnCatDubh

    It's feckin brilliant :)

I'm not sure but looking at it i wonder if your vantage point had been a half step to the right would it have been nicer to see more of the side to front of the car. Could be just me though.

    Super stuff.

Great looking shot. One thing that I think takes away from it is the Reg. Not too much you can do about that though.

RE: Thonda, I have a feeling the car wasn't even moving... would I be right Paddy?

also I doubt they car was moving to :)

AFAIK Paddy might of been using a mount that sticks onto the car and you set it up car drives on self timer, then the mount is photoshopped out, alot of car magazines use them for features

Also i'm sure he mentioned it on another site...

    Now that is the sh**

    Aye,

I've built my own rig that attaches to the car. Unfortuntately at the moment it's quite limiting in the angle I can get on it and I completely agree with the view of bringing it around more to the right. At the moment, it's 2 metres long but I plan on designing a new system for it that will incorporate the current vacuum mounts, give me five metres of reach and full adjustability at the end, with the option of going 60cm away from the rig either side :)

The shot was a 1/3rd or a 1/10th of a second, with the car crawling along at snails pace in first gear :)

Theres one majorly good thing and one majorly good thing

firstyl it made me dizzy to look at it - it looks like its moving!

and now the bad (yes making me dizzy from pseudo movement is good!)

    he's got illegal plates :P

Just to point out, the movement in the shot isn't artificial, the car was moving :)

Absolute beauty. Thanks for letting us have it.

motion blur...hmm I've played with radial from time to time, maybe I should try a new trick

Only if he's driving it on public roads, no? :P

Do you have any pics of this with the mount on Paddy, would be cool to see.

Thanks for those Ricky, I'm tempted to set one of these up now.

Although, I'd need a sexy car first me thinks :(

    Super shot.

You can photograph my car anytime!

I'd prefer a better angle, where you could also see down along one side of the car...

Ah sure I'll let you borrow mine.

Sorry for that, I thought that the car was parked and the distortion was artificial. I am impressed! Now I have to think how did you keep the car in focus when it was moving...

The camera was attached to the car, using a mount.
The focus didn't change, as the camera was moving with the car.

So the mount was processed/healed. Cool!

    thats excelent!

Ah sure I'll let you borrow mine.

It'd want to be fairly sweet to combat the RS! :D
You can usually tell fairly easily when it comes to car pics which ones were blurred via photoshop and which ones are blurred the natural way!
Sweet shot Paddy. Did you get a run in the passenger seat?
Where is the mount attached to on the car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,503 ✭✭✭smelltheglove

Ah crap, I just looked out the window and realised I was dreaming about the jag........ ah well, euromillions tonight:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,899 ✭✭✭Paddy@CIRL

The two suction mounts were attached to the drivers side edge of the rear screen. Because it's made of perspex, for weight saving, anywhere but the edge would be too flimsy to support the rig.

Was very fortunate to get a good roasting around Mondello in it, it wasn't the power and speed which the thing took off with that impressed me but the braking and turn in were physics defying ! I've been in a lot of cars, but nothing has ever braked like that RS !

I think not having the spokes of the Alloy in view make people thing the blur was PP with the new rig you make if the tire(s) can be seen as moving it'll be much cooler

Well, WRC Focus can brake also very rapidly. I almost lost my glasses... :-) But I didn't have my camera with me.

For sure, sometimes, you can just get away with it, all depends on the car. The smoother and flatter the panels, the better :)

    file284-1-Edit-Edit.jpg

You can see it's not as sharp at the back as it ought to be, surface was too rough and the rig was at full stretch which means it's going to flex a bit. Hopefully the new design will cure that !

is it me or there is some kind of halo around the car? specially on the left
to me it seems unnatural and a consecuence of over PP'ed

I love the way the clouds reflect on the right of the car, top shot

Hang on - you know someone who can arrange a passenger ride in a WRC and you never :
    A) Told me about it and
    B) Brought your camera?

Sweet Manta,Saw that already on driver i think
Did you have to photoshop out the rig?

A lot of people seemed to miss comments about the mount and the fack that this wasn't done in PS, rude to comment about angles and effects when they've already been covered.

    Great shot btw! :)
