Hi, I am thinking of using colortrend paint for a new build. Just wondering how suitable their matt paint is for the whole house. How washable is it? Any advise is appreciated.

Hi there, I am in the middle of painting my new building in colourtrend paint and so far so good. It goes on brill and you don't need as much as the other brands to get good coverage. Have wiped off a few marks so far and no residual marks left. Would also love to hear from anyone who has it on their walls for a while.

I finished my sitting room in Colortrend recently (walls and woodwork)- very happy with the colour, finish and how it went on. Seems to be durable and responds well to cleaning so far. It is very expensive though and I found I needed a lot of paint to get a top finish, but my walls were in poor shape anyway and a strong colour change was involved ( I am very particualr thou. It cost me close to €140 in paint to do this small room (5.5m x 3.5). All that said I think I would use it again, especially in rooms which get a lot of use.

We painted a room with a Colourtrend matt emulsion paint 14 years ago, and it still looks good.

Our only trouble is, we want to repaint with the same colour, and it's apparently been discontinued. We can't find any colour that comes close, at least on the charts in our nearest towns (where they say the Colourtrend range doesn't exist any more). Perhaps bigger towns have bigger ranges? It's hard to find out (and the Crown website's difficult at my 12kbps dialup).

I don't really understand why any colour has to be discontinued, when it's simply a formula for mixing certain quantities of certain colours in the shop.

Any ideas? The colour I'm after is Colourtrend AC110N, Roasted Pepper. It's a lovely, deep, clear (not muddy) crimson with a hint of brown; like the colour the Victorians used for picture galleries. It's warm in winter, and suits the summer too (when it's reminiscent of warmer climes). Pictures look good against it, too!

I was about to email Crown from their website, but saw this thread first.

Meant to say the only reason our Colortrend matt emulsion needs repainting is that damp got in through bits of exterior stone wall (better preparation's in order this time, I think). Elsewhere, it still looks fresh after 14 years, and normal marks are removable. It's in a bedroom, so we haven't tested it with kitchen grease etc, or steam (though the humidity in the bedroom's about 80% most of the year).

I was confused/out of date about who's taken over whom (hence the thoughts of contacting Dulux). I'd assumed for years (until seeing this thread) that Colortrend was defunct (all I saw in my area was Crown & Dulux). I've now found a link in another thread to colortrend.ie, where the range (1 of 5) now seems to be called Colortrend Millenium. I think they make more colours than the website shows, so I've emailed them asking about my colour, which I didn't see.
Meanwhile, their stockists include 2 shops I've never been to but can reach farly easily. I'll be passing near one tomorrow, so will investigate. I couldn't work out from the stockist list who stocks the Colortrend range, but fingers crossed (the paint's been on our critical list for some time!)

Speedy, helpful reply from General Paints in Co. Kildare (who do Colortrend); my colour's still available! The nearest General Paints stockists have now gone/don't do Colortrend, so I availed of G.P.'s central mix-and-send-by-courier facility (they didn't mind doing just 1 litre). The courier charge is €6.50 (whatever the quantity I think). I don't know if it's the same to all areas though (I'm in W. Donegal).
I ordered it by phone late yesterday afternoon, and it should be here tomorrow.

The G.P. lady proffered preparation advice; apparently the reds aren't as opaque as some colours, and need a toning undercoat (rather than white/bare plaster), eg grey for my deep red. We already have our undercoat though; a pot of similar red emulsion I got from Atlantic Homecare when I thought Colortrend was no more (nice, but not quite it).

Thanks for the thread title, woneill2000 - it gave me the crucial lead!
