I was only hired after the start of the recession so I think I'll be fine.

Yeah i was thinking the christmas festive season might be lacklustre this time around.

I work for myself - okay for the mo, but no idea what's around the corner!
I can always cut costs right back, so it'll work out either way even if business drops! Don't really wanna give up my sweet office building & staff though, but if it came to it, I could work from home w/ just 1 staff member & actually be better off money-wise, but little room for expansion!

Most of the large companies I know have cancelled their christmas parties too. Hoping the recession will be short lived, but its looking as if it will be here for at least 12 months.

considering i pay to do my job i think my job is very safe :)

Work for a small software company. As things stand it would create problems for them, definitely in the short, if they let me go. A lot of work was done entirely by myself, so there would be a lot of work involved in getting to grips with the work. Plus we have more new projects starting, so that means work for the immediate future.

If you can read this, you're too close!

Working for one of the big mobile phone manufacturing companies. They're in trouble financially at the moment.

To be hones I can't see my contract being renewed when it expires soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,406 ✭✭✭Pompey Magnus

I'm on a contract with the Council which expires in 3 weeks and there ain't going to be an extension or renewal. I have one interview coming up and if that doesn't come through then things could get dodgy. I'm thinking of moving to the UK, there seems to be more work in my line over there.

My job...do it on the first attempt; a job well done.

Have to do it multiple times = job security.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,200 ✭✭✭muppetkiller

    Not bothered either way.
I've no crazy Mortgage or Debts so if I get made redundant I'll spend a few months traveling. I'm in IT so always work somewhere in the world.

Swapped jobs in April and recently finished my probation.
My company is continually expanding and I'm working in my own niche in it so it looks good for the immediate future anyway.

My place just let 10% or 1,000 staff go worldwide. They told us we are safe but who knows! We are moving to a bigger building in January.

I'm a final year student, so I have nothing to worry about until May.

I'm incredibly worried about getting a job then. I'm kinda counting on being accepted for the JET program, despite the fact there's only a 1 in 3 chance of being accepted. :(

Working in Retail. Lucky to have a senior position in a recently opened branch. Even if they wanted to they can't aford to close as they're tied to a lease/contracts/Company Budgets. Also the side of the industry I'm in is recession-resisant, if not recession-proof...

My job's very secure at the moment. The only thing is that it's slowly killing me from the inside out (great job, it just affords me no personal time) so I could have a bit of conflict soon :)

Well let's see: I work at the HQ of the smallest of the "Detroit Big Three."
I'll give you a hint: it starts with a "C" and ends with (h)rysler.

A year ago they had 72,000 workers. Now there are 61,000. The goal is to get below 50,000 workers before April 2009 through retirements, making people redundant, and simply firing people.

My home value has dropped over $100,000 in the past 2 years.

So, I got a new job in the steel industry (I start Monday), but it doesn't pay as much because it's in offices located at a mill instead of the headquarters; I can't move because houses take forever to sell, and the money I might gain from moving to Pittsburgh is not enough to cover the decline in my home value.

I guess you gotta do what you gotta do...right?

I'm safe enough i think. We have recently consolidated all the helpdesks in Europe into our call centre, so we have a much bigger job now. So unless i seriously **** up, i should be ok.

Was working up in the airport there over the summer, contact expires next Friday and almost certainly won't be renewed. Apparently there's a 10% reduction in staff on the cards for the DAA as a whole. (Whoops, there's the non-disclosure out the window :P)

But I'm a student, so apparently I shouldn't care about any of this:rolleyes:. I'm still looking for a part-time job to replace this so I reckon the options could do with updating - "I'm a student looking for work" and "I'm a student, working part-time " would have been nice to see.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭thebman

Safe enough, work in as the only technical support analyst and as the only deskside support person for 8 small companies where I work.

Also half the department quit in the past 6 months because it is a crap company to work for so we are running on a skeleton crew of IT staff so they can't actually afford to let anyone else go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,936 ✭✭✭LEIN

They are sending me to the UK next month to do a managers course so im thinking i will be safe enough for another few years. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,177 ✭✭✭DenMan

Just returned to full time education so am happy. Also work part time as a Graphic Designer and am attached to a film production company so fine for now. Unfortunately others aren't as lucky. Have friends in the HSE that were let go. I am sure they will be looking to thin their ranks very soon, nationally.

got made redundant 3 weeks ago, although it was on the cards for months! Still looking around with no light at the end of the tunnel in sight as yet...

I voted that im a student and I dont care but tbh not worried about my part-time job either.
I'm only working part-time but tbh I could prob walk into that company and get at least an Assisstant Manager position if I dropped out of college tomorrow.

Thankfully my career is a marine engineer, companies crying out for us so job pretty secure.

job has many cons but fear of losing a job ain't one!

Recently moved jobs after being with the last place for nearly 10 years. Also bought my house right at the top of the housing boom. Just waiting for the magic beans that I bought to grow and then I'm sorted!
