Philips HTS3357 DVD / Media Player Problem

    Hi,

Apologies if this is not the correct forum for posting this, but its as close as I could find!

I am having a strange problem with the above Philips DVD Home Theatre System HTS3357.

The system works fine, and it has a USB port in the front of it, so the father in law decided he wanted to play AVI's through it when I shown him what it does after sticking my USB stick in there. So he went out and bought a 500GB Maxtor drive, the thing is, it doesn't pick it up. So I brought over my 500GB LaCie drive and it worked a treat. I checked the both of them and the only difference was the file system format on my LaCie was FAT32 and his was NTFS... not a problem I thought, I took it away and formatted it as FAT32... still nothing! So I took a mates WD 2.5 250GB FAT32 drive for a lend, plugged it in and nothing?

I'm really confused as to why my LaCie works and nothing else does? Is this something to do with the player or the HDD? He really wants a largish disk to play movies on, but my LaCie's are quite old and I'd say all new ones are NTFS.

If anybody can shed a little light or throw a few idea's this way as to why this DVD / Media player only picks up certain disks it would be great. I don't fancy going out and buying different ones and keep having to return them until we get the correct one!

    Thanks,
    DG.
