What outs on a desk would send to an interface though an xlr? Recording vocals and using a PA as monitors.

    Thanks,

Though so, not very good with this sorta stuff, I just like to pick up and play but I've been lumberd with the task so here we go...

I have a desk with a PA coming out of it being used as monitors for the vocals on track 1. I'm looking to send the vocals from the desk to one of the mic line ins on my UX8 so I can record it into reaper.

There are loads of outputs on the desk master, aux 1,2 etc etc... Which one would send a signal from the desk?

Sorry if I'm not explaining very well but its a bit of a learning curve... I can get more info on the type of desk it is later if you want.

    Thanks!

It would help to know which desk you have but generally you would use a group output. An Aux output should work grand as well. Using a group or aux output you will be able to send only one source e.g. your vocal to your UX8 even when you have other signals going trough the desk.
    Hope this helps.

Thats perfect, we just need the vocal mic going through the desk, the rest is mic'd directly into the UX8.

    Thanks man!

Does the channel have a direct out?

You can use a Direct out, a group out, or an Aux out from your desk , whichever suits. They're all line level.

However the connection to the UX needs to be the Jack In Line level, not the XLR ins which are Mic Ins.

Ok so I just need to change one of the input from a mic to a line in, I think I have it now :)

Worked perfectly! So happy with the results. Now for a shamefully bad mixing process! :D
