Threadmill?

Posted this in the fitness section and got no responses so I figured I'd give it a go here.

My problem is that having joined a gym 2 months ago my workout has consisted mainly of increasing my times on the threadmill. When I started I was barely able to get over ten mins without pulling up but I have been able to up this to over 50 mins and 10km runs fairly regularly.

The problem is that over the past two weeks I have suffered from some serious pain in my right knee and I'm now worried that I might have done some damage. It usually only appears after a long run and disappears within a few days. I stretch before any running, not a lot but what I would consider adequate.

Anyone have any ideas what I might be doing wrong or a solution to stop it happening. I'm not sure whether physio is a good idea or maybe some support for the knee while running. Or maybe I should just stop the long runs and give myself more time to build up to them.

Suggestions and advice are always appreciated.

My guess is that you've done too much too soon. That's terrific progress in two months. But (as others here will confirm) it's much easier physically on the tready and you may not have made equal progress outdoors in mileage terms.

So you may have an overuse unjury. Defintely back off the running. Do not disguise the injury with a knee support.

And when the knee feels better, alternate the tready with the outdoors and build up your miles gradually. Your body will thank you long term.

Yeah, definitely get the gait analysis done. I started running in LIDL runners...not the smartest of ideas once I started to build up the distances. Went to Amphibian King in Bray after it was recommended by a few friends, made such a difference.
