My husband has an ipod about 3 years old....the one which holds 1000 songs. I don't know how many GB.

I would like to buy one for his birthday. As he travels on the bus everyday, I would like to get one where he can download tv programmes/movies.

Firstly, which ipod do you think would be most suitable?

Secondly, I have 1MB broadband. It's fine for downloading songs but would I need to upgrade to download video?

He probably has an iPod Mini.

I would suggest buying him an iPod Touch 32GB - he will love the interface, esp. the touch screen and the fact that there is 1000's of applications and games to download to it. Also, I plays videos so seamlessly, has Wi-Fi as an added bonus.

Check it our here - http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/

BTW, 1MB is grand for downloading videos, may take longer since it's a basic package but you can always upgrade your connection, maybe the next option up, should be cheap.

+1 for the iPod Touch, the interface is excellent, it'll hold plenty of songs and videos and watching videos on the 3.5" screen is brilliant......the 16GB is plenty big if he's only use to 1,000 songs, it'll hold about 3,500 songs or 20 hours of videos.

+2 iPod Touch is an amazing bit of kit! It will cover everything you are looking for.

but it wont brew your tea, which I was disapointed by ;)

It's a nice piece of kit alright, it'd definitely be between that or the Archos 5.

    Thanks for the tips.

But I have discovered there is 1st and 2nd generation ipod touch. What's the difference? The girl in an o2 store said it's only the look but that may be because she only had the older model.

It's the appearance mostly, but the 2nd gen also has a built in speaker (which is pretty crap, but..meh it's handy) and a built in "Nike+" module for exercising, although you still need to buy another accessory to use nike+ and the new model also has a tactile volume button whereas the 1st gen only used the touch screen.

Otherwise both 1st+2nd are identical...although I would argue that the older model had a slightly better screen :)

The older one also looks better IMO.

Also forgot to mention that the new one has a polished stainless steel backplate whereas the 1st gen has a chrome plated backplate, they both look the same but the new one doesn't sratch as easy.
