World Record Chain Letter?

My son recived a chain letter to day from a friend claiming to be a "Gunniess Book of Records" attempt. It states that it has been on the go scince 1996 and needs to keep going until Winter 2008 to be succseful.

This is then followed by the "advice" that the post office is monitoring if/where the chain is broken.

I hate the idea of chain letters in general but is this one for real, has anyone else recived one of these?

I have contacted the GBWR and I am awaiting a reply.

Should I let my son continue the chain? or should I just bin it?

NOTE: there is no money envolved.

    Advice or thoughts, thanks!

    Bin it :)!
Guinness World Records does not accept any records relating to chain letters, sent by post or e-mail. If you receive a letter or an e-mail, which may promise to publish the names of all those who send it on, please destroy it, it is a hoax. No matter if it says that Guinness World Records and the postal service are involved, they are not.

We are sorry if you have been taken in by a chain letter claiming to be legitimate and are now disappointed to learn that it is not.

    point:
If the chain letter is supposed to be copied and passed on, at what point did all the text get changed to let u know when it was started and how close it has come to ending. and how many people have already participated.

Chain mail by post? Reminds me of my pre-internet days, when I used to use teletext for film reviews.

I'd take it out of the bin and forward it. Then press F5 on your local postbox, you wont believe what happens! OMG! lol! lol!

I would bin it just to ruin all that work that those idiots did in trying to break such a stupid record.

Also if you decide to continue it, Is Anthrax availible near you?

It's a set up by those cunning peeps in AnPost to increase revenue.

Be careful they will be sending Chain Parcels soon at €6 a pop ;)

ALL chain letters/e-mails are hoaxes - across the board. Yes, even that one about the little girl who has cancer and Bill Gates will donate cash to her local hospital so that they can afford a new liver for her if you just pass on this e-mail to 15,000,147 people...

that's the thing I found odd, no stamp needed, the kid had just written Guinness Book of Records on the envelope, as instructed in the letter, and it arrived.

That one is true. Happened to a guy I know's niece. Swear to god. They sent the email on a tuesday morning and by the following morning their porch was filled with 2c pieces, one from each email that had been forwarded. They bought her a new heart and kidneys, and used the money left to go on holidays to disneyland. But she died due to the fact it wasn't a heart and/or kidneys she needed. oops.

    Virus Alert !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you receive an e-mail with a subject of Badtimes, delete it immediately WITHOUT READING IT. This is the most DANGVirus Alert !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently this one is pretty nasty.

It will not only erase everything on your hard drive, but it will also delete anything on disks within 20 feet of your computer.

It demagnetizes the stripes on ALL of your credit cards.

It reprograms your ATM access code, screws up the tracking on your VCR and uses subspace field harmonics to scratch any CD's you attempt to play.

It will program your phone auto dial to call only 900 numbers.

This virus will mix antifreeze into your fish tank.

It will drink ALL your beer. (I hate that)

FOR GOD'S SAKE, ARE YOU LISTENING? ???

It will leave dirty underwear on the coffee table when you are expecting company.

It will replace your shampoo with Nair and your Nair with Rogaine, all the while dating your current boy/girlfriend behind your back and billing their hotel rendezvous to your Visa card.

It will cause you to run with scissors and throw things in a way that is only fun until someone loses an eye.

It will rewrite your backup files, changing all your active verbs to passive tense and incorporating undetectable misspellings, which grossly change the interpretations of key sentences.

If the "Bad Times" message is opened in a Windows 95/98 environment, it will leave the toilet seat up and leave your hair dryer plugged in dangerously close to a full bathtub.

It will not only remove the forbidden tags from your mattresses and pillows, It will also refill your skim milk with whole milk.

**WARN AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN. **

And if you don't send this to 5000 people in 20 seconds you'll fart so hard that your right leg will spasm and shoot straight out in front of you, sending sparks that will ignite the person nearest you. Send this to everyone…..

I got these in School somewhere between 10 and 12 years ago, I bought the Guinness World Records Book eagerly expecting my name to be in it, Fail!!

If I remember it was that your sent it to 5 people plus a copy to whoever sent it to you, but the person who sent it to you should not be part of the 5. The person's names and addresses were also on the bottom of the letter IIRC.
