Hey, i lost my keys to my car, a Toyota Altezza 03 (import lexus Is200) and called Toyota to get a price, i was told they would have to tow the car in and i'd be lookin at anything between 1500 and 2000, i asked two locksmiths ans they said there was nothin they could do. I'm hoping there's a cheaper way out as i'm stuck without my car and am spending a fortune on taxi's, anybody got any ideas? Thanks

For want of a better plan, i'd start by asking an English-speaking Toyota dealer in Japan. Maybe try diplomatic sales there?

It is possible to sort this much cheaper than Toyotas price. Try www.autokey.ie I am sure they will be able to so do it and if not then come back to me and I will do it for you.

Generally the old ones will have been removed from the system when the new ones are being coded and will be entirely useless. Might open the doors, won't start the car.

As an aside, this typical of what the manufacturers get away with. It would be quite possible for the software writers to allow the dealer tool code new keys to a used ECU rather than having to buy a new ECU when the master key is lost.
There is no valid reason for this except to profiteer.
