It seems theres going to be two pretty large protests in Dublin tomorrow. The students and the pensioners. I wonder if they're both going to be on at the same time. AFAIK the student protest is at lunchtime maching from the Spire to Leinster House and the pensioners are going to be holding a rally outside Leinster House, again at lunchtime I presume.

Lets just hope that not too many hot headed gob****es show up and distract the media from the main issues.

Good luck to anybody trying to do business in Dublin city tomorrow :D

Nothing like buses. Buses tend to get you to get you to your destination. Protests tend to get you nowhere. Look at feedback as a prime example of how far protesting will get you. 90% of the poor fcukers in there fail in their protest efforts.

I will be protesting tomorrow (really just an excuse to miss lectures and get stoned in public.... i mean protest.

protesting is neccesary to let the government know how the people stand, if there's a large protest (such as the one for the iraq war) the government can judge how popular a certain course of action is.

To actually get the government to repeal a new law you have to do a month of solid rioting (like they did in france).

I would have no problem doing this if fee's came in.
    .... I mean, I'm an upstanding citizen.:D

Few big rallies that come to mind.

    1) Irish Ferries
    2) The 'Free The Rossport 5' rally. *they were released the day before, but the rally went ahead as a Shell To Sea march*
3)The Anti-War Demo at the start of the Iraqi Occupation.
    4) The Healthcare Demo EARLIER this year *the one recently flopped*

Serious questions about wether or not anything was won by holding marches in any of the above cases. I was on them all for what its worth, out of support for the campaigns, but remain critical of the tactic.

Smaller, direct actions have much more of an effect. The students in UCD yesterday for example, or the fantastic use of the media lately by concerned citizens with regards the medicalcards issues. Walking around will only get you so far....and can make people think "sure we've done our part"

If we all just walked around when we were unhappy, the government would be delighted!
