Yeah, know the feeling, can't help but wonder is this just going to be a rehash of Big Brother, I mean would the average person know the difference between a series all about a, publicly selected, group of brain-dead-zombies, put in a house together, and the undead?

Definatly an improvment for Davina's image, dont you think

    Big improvement!

But seriously, if you think about it, the 'housemates' are the perfect survivors... 28 Days Later with added bitching, fighting and zombies! From my impression of it, they're not going to be living in the house and not moving, like, I'd imagine they're going to want to get out for supplies and somewhere safer!

thats what i was hoping for aswell. ive always wanted somehing terrible to happen to housemates in big brother and i do love zombies. Its the perfect combination

Have to say, I'm looking forward to this!

Should be atleast a cheap laugh. Although in the end i hope they all die horrible deaths. For the simple reason they are on big brother

I thought it was pretty good. So far it has all the staple elements of a zombie movie. Blows to the head, no explanations etc.

I will certainly be tuning in for the next one.

Yep, have to say I enjoyed this myself. Looking forward to seeing where it goes!

Overall I enjoyed it. Was a bit disapointed in how they showed the initial outbreak / socital breakdown / pandemonium though.

give it a solid 7/10 . will be following it until the finale on Saturday anyways

They may explain the outbreak in Flash backs as the week goes on. This would make a great training video/film.

Is this on every night this week?

Crap, I thought it would be one once a week.

At first i thought it was going to be a rather brilliant comment on Big Brother and society, you know trying to say we were braindead zombies watching the show feeding on their inane existence in the house enjoying their suffering and picking them off one by one? Maybe it is but it doesn't seem to be coming across like that.

I thought it was good and am looking forward to the rest of it, but hay I'm a sucker for a zombie. It really is a genre that the British do well.

I find British horror's in general alot better than anything made in the US. So far I think its well done except for the intial out break

It's coming together quite well I think!

missed the first bit of it but it seemed pretty good, ill watch a few more at least.

the bit where yer one comes into the house and starts staring through the one way mirrors pretty much exactly what wouldda happened if it were real life. everyone would be a jackass.

Half an hour is far too short esp since the ad break is very long.

It's strange, the first one was 45 minutes...

If you miss any episodes you can watch them on the channel 4 website

Written by the brilliant Charlie Brooker, one of the sharpest media commentators out there...and the writer/presenter of the brilliant Screen Burn..loving it so far, the perfect antidote to the saccharine sweet crap like Dr. Who, Robin hood and the risible Merlin, that passes for good TV in Britain these days....

Look at this. Already unprepared for the zombie outbreak. How do you expect to survive if you do not even have equipment adiquit enough to view the perscribed training materials?

Shame on you, go get a PC and keep it stored next to your chainsaw and shotgun.

I don't know what to say...other than I feel ashamed and chastened, Its clear that I've been living in cloud cuckoo land. Perhaps Boot Camp might increase the prospects of my survival..?

has anyone noticed that the zombies can't open doors. Now I know you could say that it requires a certain amount of intelligence to do that, but chimps, cats dogs have learned to open doors. Whats stopping the zombies?

I've really enjoyed it so far I have to say. Loved the idea of having the Big Brother thing as a back drop. Thought it was a clever way of approaching it. Tonights episode looks good with the cops showing up with itchy trigger fingers!

Is it on just for this week? Like after Saturday is that it?

It's early days yet - cats, dogs and chimps have to be shown how to open them... The might learn yet though.

Yes I noticed there was quite a surreal moment in the first episode when the girl met the zombie in the corridor where the camera's where.

The zombie chases her in the diary room and the door on her side is a push door and on the zombies side is a grab handle (we all know the sort) but suddenly that door is "secure"

    ggrrrrrrr brains, brains :D

I must say I enjoyed it last night despite the obvious flaws in the storyline, re: initial outbreak.

A previous poster is right, the Brits do better horror films than their US counterparts, see the original Wickerman and 28 Days Later to know what I mean. classics. Shaun of the Dead was a riot. :pac:

The whole Zombie genre, perfected by George Romero was used by him as a social commentary on how he viewed the ills of US society with its inherent racism, militarism, corporate capitalism, exploitation. He also used his movies to poke fun at the gun lobby, right wing nut jobs, christian fundementalists, the establishment etc. Night of the Living Dead was made in the midst of the social turmoil that was engulfing America in the late 1960s while Dawn of the Dead tackels the post Vietnam malaise of the Carter years and its runaway capitalism. Romero himself holds strong left wing views. 28 Days Later is an excellent analogy of the Blairite society with the military and establishment lampooned, as seen in the renegade trigger happy Brit troops commanded by the pscychotic character that Christopher Ecclestone (Dr Who) brilliantly played.

Look at Robocop, I know not horror but it pokes fun succintly at Reaganomics of the 1980s American society.

On Dead Set I think as a previous poster pointed out correctly, the zombies represent us, the public that has been drawn in by the trashy experience that is Big Brother and how we are insatiated by it. Its all tongue in cheek of course.

Still after all has been said and done, George Romero will never be beaten. His movies are an education in itself.

Anyway, just sit back and enjoy with loads of pop corn. grrrrrrrrrr <shuffle> brrrraaains

    Hmmm,
I think that the series is coming apart at the seams a little.

I'm still enjoying it but there are some little things annoying me. For example the way the main character so expertly uses a Glock.

Maybe shes enjoys target shooting in her spare time??? :)

Yes, I admit. The fact that someone with no experience can use a gun like that really spoils the realism of a story where dead people walk around trying to eat everyone.

What caused the initial outbreak? I missed the very start.

    I love this programme!

We don't know yet - Is all a bit up in the air at the moment.

So when people were complaining about how it was dealt with, they were complaining that it hasn't actually been shown?

I love the cheesy lines the main girl has (Jamie Winstone) - like last night, when she was going to the supermarket, she says: "Let's go shopping."

Or the bit about the zombies being "as thick as ****". :D

I don't think the Zombies work, their just mixing the fast pace of 28 days (Does the camera have to shake every time you look at a Zombie) with the slow horror of the undead It doesn't make sense in spots. I don't think they've really thought it through all that well and are just relying on the 28 days later pace to carry the plot along hopping you won't have time to think it through.

    It's ok at best.

no clue of how it started though. Thought the ending was brilliant in how the pressure got cranked up just before the diary room (not to sure about that part though)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,657 ✭✭✭trishw78

I was thinking about this during the weekend about how they didn't discuss how the outbreak happened, and in reality we wouldn't necessarily know how the outbreak happened until after it possibly had been contained and an investigation carried out.

So are you even more prepared now for WWZ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,080 ✭✭✭✭Micky Dolenz

I learnt one very important thing. If you have a member of the group that may comprimise saftey for all, then they have to be taken out quickly. They are as dangrous as the Z's

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 196 ✭✭rferguson

Well, its finished now and i said to myself that i would reserve judgement on the show until after the finale.

I must say i really enjoyed it. it came across more like a movie than a mini series. The acting was good (even Davina). The comic parts were very funny and well executed. The horror/gore was good... not too much and not too little.

I thought the ending was fantastic.
Very bleak. Which IMO is the only way a goodzombie horror story should end.

So all in all ill have to give it a big thumbs up. 8/10

If anyone has missed it all or any episodes. PM me io have them and will be happy to burn to DVD for ya.
