Couldn't agree more. I use them to keep in touch with whoever I'm out shooting with. Extremely handy when needing to inform them of a pheasant heading their way:cool:

myself and my brother, who is my shooting buddy too, have been using em for years. Have ones with ear-piece and external mic so very quiet in operation too.

We've been using them for years too. Wouldn't go without them.

yeah they're defo a handy bit of kit. my mate was able to stand on a hill while i worked through the bog with the hounds and keep in touch and direct each other about which way fox or hounds were going. cant believe we used to be shouting or ringing each other. i wont leave home without them now.

Interesting read but you might clarify something for me. Does "VOX" mean that , without pressing any button, or using a mic, but speaking directly into the unit, the transmitter is activated by my voice only? Its for a unit to be used by somebody rather severely impaired memory wise - very bad at matters technincal. Thanks, Michael r. ps The Aldi ones mention vox but I suspect you must use a separate mic - am I wrong?

Yes, but you have to switch it to VOX mode. Then you just speak and the transmitter is activated.

We use them as well. Great way to communicate out in the field when sometimes there is no mobile signal.

Except when you carefully stalk an animal for ten minutes and just as you are about to shoot , "Have you seen any yet?" comes bellowing over your radio with the expected results.

Dead on pullandbang - my question answered - many thanks. Am looking at the Talkabouts by Motorola but not sure if they have a charging pod. Where best to buy? (I live in Co Wicklow - see my live streaming tfc cam at www.camstreams.com/live cams/scenery/ Irish Traffic - Wicklow. Every days 0930 to 0000 - and beyond if I forget to switch off! Best on broadband. - when it whole thing is not clogged up with users!) Thanks again , Michael r.

    One thing.
Be careful of claims of fantastic range of "six miles" etc.
Some units are lucky to make to the end of the block,or have some weird frequency that you can speak to Ivan perfectly in Red Square Moscow, but not to yor pal 200 meters away.:)
I've found that the only way to test these units out is buy a set and try them out in the field. It's the usual what you pay is what you get.Cheap money, cheap&nasty.
Still top of the pile or close to it is Motorola[albeit they make ****e phones IMO] they still produce good 2way radios, followed by Yupertero[sic]and Kenwood.
Argos did or still do a pretty good 4pak of Motorolas & charger for appx 150 lids.Pretty good deal.

Recently bought the Cobra MT550 two rechargeable radios with a charger from SAS Products delivered at £40, great job no pair of hunters or farmers should be without these.
