I'm in a dilly of a pickle with these labs. I'm doing the physics labs with Igor Schvetz right now and i'm a bit confused. He told us to take a lab report sheet and write it up for the next lab session. I have it now but I'm not 100% sure on how to fill it in.

I'd really love if there was a sample report available somewhere. Are there any engineers out there who know how to fill these things in or know of an online vesrion of a sample report?

And to the JF engineers, whats with all the emails about labs we're getting. They all seem to contradict eachother and theyre really confusing! Can anyone explain whats going on?

Those things are fairly annoying alright. In the lab handbook you get theres a rough description for what is meant to go in each box.

You best bet is to read that and just do your best, from what i remember not too many people got good marks in those write ups anyway

(This is conditional that they didn't change since i did them 3 years ago)

Yea they are a major pain the arse.

You will be glad when you are doing the chemistry ones.

The report is done for you and you just have to fill in the tables and draw graphs etc.

Email your course co-ordinator, or get a class rep to, to clarify all the emails...
He's Mr Conor Spillane, email is in your handbook, which is http://www.tcd.ie/Engineering/content/pdf/JFHandbook.pdf

As for Schvetz... The lab report was pretty annoying... I cant remeber the sections exactly, but if you post the titles Ill do my best to tell you what should be included in them..

"Whoooosh... do you know that sound is? It is the sound of the air rushing over the wind turbines"

There pretty much both legends in their own ways, but overall I'd go with Taylor.

I suggest that you don't bother reading the emails.

Dr. Igor: I would encourage you to live life to the full.. learning the Gauss law!

Hahah.. he told us last year: "it is ok if you don't understand gauss' law first time. It took me two lectures to understand it when I was learning it as a child."

Ah the pendulum experiment was the best of the lot.. It was the exact same as the Leaving Cert physics one, and the graph worked out perfectly..

Physics labs reports are the worst of the lot.. but do remember the headings, because when you get to the E, C and M labs, you have to type the whole thing up your self, so the headings give you a bit of direction...

Take an extra report form or something to keep as reference..

Heh I don't take too much notice of t shirts. You're not partnered with a guy called Brian by any chance are you? He's the only one I know who was doing the pendulum...

Yeah. Was that you calling out to me? Someone said something to me when they walked past but I thought it was about there being a badminton racquet in my bag..

I was with the guy calling something out to you... He was calling you cool or something cause you had an eee.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

Oh right. I was convinced he was saying "fair play", then something about my bag, which contained a badminton racquet, thus indicating that I was brave for playing a sport conceived as somewhat effeminate. Mleh.

Slightly off topic, but can we access the "local" page on the tcd website the way the lecturers can? I went to go on to it to download the 1e7 lecture for this lab thing tomorrow, but it wasn't there! So no lecture for me:(. Ah well. I don't think many people will have it...

ye for some reason she told us that she wasnt strict enough last year and that she was going to try hard to be stricter this year. So far it's not really working...

also, why do the second year engineers here all have websites?

Youll learn most of it again from Gareth ODonnell when you go on to sketching anyway.....
