    Hi

Im thinking about getting adobe lightroom 2.

I have a vista laptop and am planning on getting an iMac to replace my aging home PC.

Just wanna know if I get lightroom, will I be able to use the license key for it on the PC and mac does anyone know?

I have this fear that the license key will only work for one operating system.

    Anyone know?

I bought lightroom 2 a few weeks ago and loaded it on my three computers Vista, XP, and the latest imac with no problems.

errr if you buy one license key, legally you can only use it on one machine. If you use it on two, you are breaking the terms of your licensing agreement - whether it works or not

It depends on the terms of the license, some commercial licenses allow you to install software on a work machine and a home machine for example, but only use it on one machine at a time. The PS license might be like this (I vaguely recall it -being- like this at some point)

From the Adobe Website, on the Lightroom 2.0 license

    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/faq/

Subject to the terms of the End User Licensing Agreement, the primary user of the computer on which Photoshop Lightroom 2 (the "Software") is installed may install a second copy of the Software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable computer or a computer located at his or her home, provided that the Software on the portable or home computer is not used at the same time as the Software on the primary computer. You may be required to contact Adobe to make a second copy. Lightroom is sold as multiplatform software, which means it can be installed on either Mac OS X or Windows.

So, that should answer your question. Can can install it (within license) on both machines (a primary and secondary), but only use it on one machine at a time.

Lightroom is allowed on 2 computers at the same time. And they don't have to be the same platform. I use my one copy of Lightroom 2 on my Mac Laptop and a Vista Laptop. They are both registered with Adobe, so no Software Police at the door so far :)

    Thanks guys

    That answers it!

BTW anyone have any opinions on lightroom 2? Or should I be devils advocate and wait for Bibble 5 which has layers!

    I'm a frequent user of Lightroom 2.

Have pretty much stopped using photoshop for "everyday" tasks
as lightroom can do it all much quicker.

All the export features for HDR, Panorama etc work with CS4 without
    having to patch it. :)

I know the new CaptureOne has been released and as you are saying
Bibble 5, but I doubt I can be tempted away.

I've been using Lightroom 2 now a while and think it's brilliant. I can't remember when I last went in to Photoshop to edit an image. Lightroom does just about all I need now, for the majority of processing and adjustments.

    Great

And do most people just download from the net or is there anywhere to pick it up in Dublin?

Actually, will be in New Orleans in November, anyone know any places there to buy ha ha?

You can always download it from Adobe and use it free for 30 days, before you buy the full thing in a store (online, here or US). Most decent computer stores in the US will have it.

Yep, I'm a regular user of Lightroom 2, and it is a big improvement over version 1. I teach my workshops with it, and students find it intuitive and easy to use - much more so than Photoshop.

The base version of 2.0 works ok, but has big performance problems with large catalogues (there are 40,000 pictures or so in my main catalogue, and it was prone to frequent hangs). However, they have put out a release candidate of the 2.1 patch which solved all those problems for me. The final version of the patch is not out yet, but can't be too far off.

As for the licensing, yes you can use it on 2 computers and yes you can use it on both PC and Mac with the same license - which I wish they'd do for Photoshop. Having to buy two licenses for CS4 is irritating me (I use both PC and Mac).

    Cheers,
    Peter
