very hard question to answer as we don;t know the industry you are in, the level of job applied for....etc as well as what ' bad performance' consisted of (taking sick days off all the time? or genuine poor performance in your role?)

first thing I would do would ensure that I don;t use previous company for a reference! ...some companies insist on previous employer as ref so if at all possible is there anyone from the company who can provide you with a reasonable reference? (whilst you will not be given a 'bad' reference companies are entitled to be honest about your employment)....

If you are applying for a similar line of work guess the other question to you would be 'do you want to do that type of job?'

at present an easy answer for why you left could be 'let me go due to downturn in business, or 'wanted to reduce my hours' ....etc...etc .....but this all depends on the industry, the level you are at...

best of luck to you and hopefully something I have said makes sense and gives you an idea or two!

Could you say you are still working for the company who fired you? If so, this will solve the issue of not using them as a reference. Make sure you give your P45 to the accounts/payroll person rather than your manager (just in case they check the dates on it.)

Also, try to think about why your previous employer fired you (I understand you think they were unfair, but were you to blame as well?) and make sure those problems don't happen again.

    I don't get how that's unfair.

Well I'm guessing she means they skipped giving her a warning or something like that...?
