I'd imagine you'd grow quite tired of one if you were driving it everyday.

I'd have alot of time for any of the TR's and GT6's.
I like those Triumph 6 cylinder engines, they sound great.

Although any of the ones I worked on all seemed to suffer from low oil pressure.

I'm not sure that any '70s British car would be a good daily driver - some of them barely made the grade when new. It depends on your mileage and the quality of the car that you buy but in my experience an hour in stop-start traffic is a pain in most classics. If you're mechanically handy then it'll help hugely as you can anticipate a lot of problems. Access to a workshop/decent garage space is a must.

As far as oil pressure is concerned, it can be a problem along with thrust washer issues and oil leaks. Some of the US TR6 sites have instructions for bearing replacement with the engine left in place  Mind you, my GT6 has good oil pressure after 80k miles and doesn't appear to have been rebuilt (according to the history - most everything else was though) so I reckon that careful ownership helps enormously.

    They do sound fantastic!

    Hi scuba steve,

Tr6 one of the best beefiest motors ever made, and need to be driven.
Not suitable for stop start traffic.

But man what a drive if you get the right one.

I searched hi and low and seen some scrap at big money, thers one for sale in this country for €16500 and its not worth €9k.

Another i viewed at €12k wasnt worth €5k. Purchased mine in the UK drove it nearly 400 mls to boat without a problem. May sell as i have found another in absolute mint cond that belongs to a relative who wants to have the odd drive when it suits.

You can PM if you wish...............

Ive been to a couple of sales and not seen one in top condition so I think when it happens i'll have go over the water. I'd also be after a hard top when I do.
Ill be fine to tinker about with it mechanically, but ill have to sort out some decent garage space.
    Thanks for the posts.

There's a TR club here in Ireland - it might be no harm to make contact with them. Some of the stuff sold by specialists in the UK isn't up to much either - you can't take anything on trust.

As far i know, they give problems with injectors, i'll confirm it with the ould fella when i see him. Anytime we're on runs they seem to break down, and i defiinitly wouldn't reccomend one as a daily car.

@245 - What's the website for the TR club?

I'm not too sure that they have anything that newfangled. The only contact details that I can find are:
    TR Register Ireland
7 Bellevue Heights, Greystones, Co Wicklow, Tel.: Dublin 2876449

There's an Irish Triumph club for more general Triumphs - the club website used to be http://www.triumphsireland.com but it doesn't work now. They used to meet in Clonskeagh one Sunday in every month - maybe someone else here knows more.

The fuel injection can act up - its a Lucas mechanical system which needs some expertise to set up - apparently once its set up correctly its good enough but its Lucas and its products tend to be junk.
