Weird MAC folder naming problem

    Hey,
I got a weird problem here.
I want to rename folders on my mac. I just click the folder name, then the edit window opens up, and the cursor is flashing signifying that I can text if I want.
However here's the weird thing, my keyboard stops functioning. If I type something, no changes happen.

So I checked the permissions, and I have both read and write.
So it can't be permissions. I'm sure of that, because if I highlight all the text with the mouse, then go up to edit, click copy, then paste and paste, I'll have the name twice. I've been using this tactic so far to name all my folders, but its bloody annoying.

    Anyone got any ideas?

try highlighting folder first, then hitting return on the keyboard, this also allows you to edit filename.

Are the folders locked ? Select the folder by single clicking and press cmd + i this will open the info for the folder. Half way down there is a Locked tick box. Is it ticked ? Can you change its name in the Name & Extension field below it ?

Is the folder on an external drive formatted as NTFS ?

Is the folder one you created or have access to ?
Try creating a new folder and see if you can rename it.

What I do is click once on the folder to highlight it then click and hold over the name for a couple of seconds, release the mouse button and voila the text is highlighted to you to change.
