    Hi,
Looking at getting a new set of irons to replace a starter set.
    Still a high handicapper so.....

After a bit of research narrowed it do to either Cobra S9's or Big Bertha '08's.

Couldn't hit the cobras out of my way and liked the big bertha.

The guy in the shop (mcguirks in celbridge driving range) recommended I hit a few with a MD golf black hawk magnum and I have to say he was bang on.
Everything I hit went straight, far and high .

Not much information about them on the interweb so was wondering if anyone here is using them??

    Cheers lads.

If the MD's went straight, far and high that should be all the information that you need, go for it!

I know what you're saying but I'm still a bit reluctant to part with €350 based purley on hitting 10 balls with a 7 iron.

Everything says the big bertha's are the way to go.

They're probably very good clubs, and if you were hitting them straight far and high, then that's excellent.

But if you're heart is set on having big berthas in your bag, then you're probably not going to be happy with "just" a set of MD's, so there's not much point in anyone trying to sway you.....but being a bit cheap, I'd say look for the MD's on the web, you could probably pick them up for about €200

MD Golf are a local manufacturer and their clubs have a good reputation. The bigger names will be more expensive but not necessarily better.

The Magnums look to have a lot of weight on the bottom and I guess this is why you are hitting them high. For a high handicapper then these may be a good club to use.

I wouldn't read too much into reviews. Most large faced, cavity backed clubs with sole weighting will be fine for the higher handicap player.

That site recommends the Ping G5s for the high handicapper - I'd tend to put them into a lower bracket although they are suitable for all ranges.

FYI - That's not a McGuirk's shop. They gave up that shop about a year ago. The current shop is called "Custom Golf Studio" (or something like that) and is run by ex-Brighton, Bohs, & Rovers player Derek McGrath and his father Joe.
