Choose a date for the Dusseldorf Beers

Right, time to decide on date for this event.

The reason I think we should do it so early is that Aer Lingus currently have a sale on, and no doubt will have one on again before next March. Return flights are coming in at €98 for Friday - Sunday, which isnt' at all bad.

So, if we have a confirmed weekend, and a sale appears, we are poised to strike and take advantage of the cheap fares.

I am proposing we meet on the Saturday night of the weekend in question.

Please don't book anything until we have an agreed date. Most fares are non-refundable, or, extremely expensive to change (both Ryanair and Aer Lingus).

    Some background info:

We are thinking of organising a beers to Germany for next March

    When: March 2009 timeframe
    Where: Dusseldorf, Germany

    Why Dusseldorf?
Cheap to get to - flights approx. €110-€140, plus the duration is around 1hr 20mins
Cheap to get around - taxi to city center is approx. €8, public transport is as you would expect in a German city, top class
Food/drink - Dusseldorf has a Temple Bar type area (Old Town) with plenty of eateries, great drink, and isn't expensive.

Plus, I have a particular pub in mind that would be ideal for a Beers event.

    All are welcome.

What date will we hold the beers in Dusseldorf? 22 votes

    Evening Tom

We were looking into March or April 2009 where we not? That would be a great time of the year to go. It would give everybody time to set aside and make that weekend solely dedicated to Beers. It sounds great for me personally as I will probably be off for the Easter break. Hopefully many others will be able to do the same.

First weekend in March ... gets my vote.

The rest are out for me ... birthdays & work and what-not.

You see, there are a number of factors, cost being the biggest one. I'll be honest here, I want a cheap weekend away, and having been to Dusseldorf a number of times, it really can be done.

You will pay way over the odds over the likes of the Easter/Paddy's Weekends, both flights and accommodation.

btw voted for 21 March, although I think 14 March is also do-able.

First weekend in March gets my vote, any later is too close to Paddys Day imo

It's starting to look like we are leaning in the direction of the 7 March. I will have to make myself available. Looks the best bet. Must amend personal planner.

Well, theoretically I could probably manage any of them, but voted the 21st as the end of the month would be a tad more convenient to me.. However, I'll make whatever weekend some way or another! :D

I don't see a problem with any of those dates so I won't vote unless I can't make any in particular.

28th is best for me, payday and all that, plus I have a wedding earlier in the month.

I still ain't been to a Beers organised by the Brothers but i'd love to go to this. That said i really can't say yet which weekend would suit me best so i'll just keep an eye on this here thread.

Middle two are out, too close to Paddy's Day, and the last one doesn't suit because I'm working on another trip (sorry, not BGRH related :P), so that leaves the 7th for me. And lets face it, there's no point in having the beers if I'm not there. :D

Sat the 7th would, realistically, be the only date I could manage/afford cause I'll be jetting off on the 7th April. :D

Think I can make it either the first or the last, but prefer the 7th as the 28th will be too close to Easter and I might be flying home for some holidays around the time

Tom would it be an idea to make the Poll public?

I don't think anyone needs to see Tom's poll in public to be truthful :p

I would say the 7th for myself with uni work and stuff any later would be a nightmare tryin to sort out (should we get like t shirts printed?arrange a printer to sort them out and then order them on an individual basis like)

I won't be attending (pity - coz 7th March will be the 7th anniversary of the start of my three-day StagFest in the AltStadt), but having lived there for a while I can provide any number of recommendations for where to eat & drink.

I can't now, for some reason. I think you have to do it at the time you create the poll.

Anyhow, once we decide on a date, I'll put up one more (final, promise) thread with a public poll of who has booked and is therefore going.

That's the one that will count, tbh. :)

My anniversary with the missus on the 17th, my 30th on the 20th. I don't think she'll be too keen about me fucking off to Düsseldorf for a drinking holiday :D

bring her with you. Arrange the holiday as her anniversary present and accidentally forget to tell her that you are actually meeting the people from boards on the saturday night

Why not? I happen to think bgrh shirts with names or whatever on them would make it a **** load easier to spot people in a place like germany
