Anyone know if there gonna make a netbook with an X3100 instead of the ****ty GMA 900/950s in all the current gen models.

I'd say an atom/2gb/x3100 combo would be able to survive CSS or even bf2 at low settings.

The problem with netbooks and gaming is the processor. The atom is fine for every day things, but gaming is not what it was designed for, if gaming and portability were priorities, i'd be looking at something a little bigger tbh, perhaps something like this?
    samsung q210
Just used laptopsdirect as an example...wouldn't buy off them...

It does depend what kind of games you are trying to play. One of the games that would be ideal for a netbook (Civ 4) just won't work at all due to the screen resolution :( Its unlikely to work anyway due to how much it would tax the processor.

Though Galactic Civilisations II (Civ in space basically) works nicely as long as you don't mind a bit of scrolling the screen around.

Heres a site with a listing of games that work on the Eees. Not comprehensive but a start.

I have started backtracking through my PC Games collection and theres a ton of stuff that I'll get to play again (Baldurs Gate Series and the rest) which I might never have before the netbooks appeared. The Xcom series. Starcraft and so on.

The atom would struggle a bit on games like BF2, it really doesn't have the raw power even though the X3100 does. I played quite a few games on my eeepc, the older GMA9x0 series is fine for the older titles, the bonus being anything that runs on high settings on the GMA is happy with the Atom to boot. I played a bit of Return to Castle Wolfenstein and GTA Vice City on mine, no problems. Most games can be configured to support the resolution, even if its not natively supported. A lot of games though, even those that support the GMA on lowest settings, wouldn't get by very well on the 1.6Ghz Atom.

Definitely look at small laptops rather then netbooks, I had a 11.1" laptop a while ago with the X3100, I'm sure in that size range they can also come with Radeon and Geforce intergrated like the 8200/X1250+, marginally faster then the X3100.

edit: Look at the one above. Netbook 10.2" with 9300M. Pretty much a rebadged 8400GS - not a bad card at all, will run CS Source at high settings, BF2 at medium. Pretty good going for a 10.2" machine - though the Atom might be a little slow, should be fine for older games.
