    hi all,
normal member but going unregy fro this cos obviously dont want to be identifiable ha!

currently in college and well its been goin well just gone into third year but finding it tough now... was out on work placement which was fantastic since jan and now as part of course I'm stuck studyin abroad and well basically i'm hating it... i'm not homesick or anything i'm loving the country and the experience is just i'm finding getting back into study hard and also the different style of teaching here well i dont know. its depressing me because i feel that i'll fail the course over here and thus fail the course at home and that i'll have wasted 3 years - and have proved people right that i should never have given up my job to go back to work

secondly i dont know that many here i've tried but obviously been in a foriegn country not knowing alot of the lingo isnt a help and making new friends and that hasnt been easy - i only know a few people in the class to say hello to but with only 2 classes a week its not easy - it was kindda the same at home - have always found it hard to talk/connect with people unless i know them a while but tis is just gone so much more down, its getting to the stage of i can just spend ages in a cafe drinking coffee or in a book shop flicking through a book just for something to do....

sorry for the length and wavering post. any advice?

OP, the first step is to realise you are in charge of your own future. You have the oppurtunity to make the best of your situation or let it slide through your fingers. I was in a similar situation 2 years ago. I joined clubs, as many as i could and went as often as i could. I put myself out there. Talk to people. You will be surprised how responsive people can be. Smile. Think positive. Believe in yourself and others will do. I know it sounds like self-help BS but it works.

    Basically just DO IT!!

Seems like an obvious one, but are there any other students from ireland or any other english speaking countries in your lectures abroad? Maybe try getting to know them?

I know UCC used to have an "International" society (I have the name wrong), where students from abroad could have little meet & greets, and they'd arrange nights out now and then, maybe they have something similar where you are OP?
