Hi, just a new fish question .
What should I be looking for regarding a sensor size .???
What sizes are better as a general rule ?

1/1.7" .... what exactly is this refering to ?

    Also , zoom lens question.
Whats the difference between 28-140mm and lets say a 50-250mm lens , since they both have (x5) zoom .

    thanks a lot,
    Odd Job

Regarding sensor sizes check this site out , there is a table at the bottom showing the relative size of the sensors ,
In general , the bigger the size of the sensor the better it is ( given the same amount of pixels ).

regarding the zoom question , yes they are both 5 x zoom , but they start and end at different points. So the one ending at 250mm will zoom much closer to any given subject than the one that ends at 140mm.

So , lets say your standing approx 50 feet away from something , the 250 will bring you much closer than the 140mm. At the other end though , the 28 will give you a much wider view than the 50 , which would be very nice for landscapes.

If these zooms are on a compact camera that your looking at , then go for the 28 - 140 , the reason for that is that 50 -250 , while great for zooming , would be terrible for wide shots , and you'll want the wide shots a lot more than you'll want the zoom shots.
